In the early morning of 16, a fire broke out in Building 74, Caojing District 2, Yushan Town, Changshu City. Twenty-two people were burned to death and three others were slightly injured. Residents nearby said that the burning building was rented by a group: "It has been rented for more than two years. Recently, there are more than 21 people, most of whom are foreigners, with an average age of twenty-five or six, waiters and chefs." In June this year, local residents complained that there were security risks in renting houses in 74 buildings in Caojing 2 District of Yushan Town.

The incident occurred in a commercial house rented by a city resident, which was a staff dormitory rented by Jiangsu Siyage Catering Management Co., Ltd.. The fire building is a two-story brick-concrete structure with attic, with a building area of about 211 square meters and a fire area of about 211 square meters. After investigation and verification, there were 29 people living in the house at the time of the incident. After thorough cleaning of the scene, 22 people were confirmed dead. All three injured people were slightly injured and were not life-threatening.

Although it has been found that the fire was caused by arson, so many casualties would not have occurred if it had not been for group renting. Group renting, especially irregular group renting, itself means great risks. Wires are privately connected, electricity and gas are used at will, the partition of group rent is extremely flammable, and the aging of houses and the lack of fire-fighting equipment have all laid a "visible" safety hazard for group rent life. Between potential risks and real disasters, there is only a lack of incentives for transformation. Danger may happen at any time, and the moment of disaster is at hand.

In case of fire, never jump off a building blindly. You can use evacuation stairs, balconies, downspouts and so on to escape and save yourself. You can also use the rope to tear the bed sheets and quilt covers into strips and connect them into ropes, and bolt them tightly on the fixed objects such as window frames, heating pipes, iron railings, etc., and protect your palms with towels, cloth strips, etc., and slide down along the rope, or go down to the unlit floor to get out of danger.
