Products go through three stages: engineering design, process manufacturing design and manufacturing. In these three stages, EBOM, PBOM and MBOM, three bills of materials with very similar names but very different contents, were produced respectively. These are three main BOM concepts. EBOM is redesigned by process engineers according to the processing level and ability of the factory. It is used for process design and production management. It can clearly understand the manufacturing relationship between parts, and track how parts are made, where they are made, by whom and with what information. At the same time, PBOM is also one of the key management data structures of MRP II/ERP production management.

In fact, BOM is a broad concept, and there are many kinds of BOM according to different uses. Design the BOM on the drawing, plan the BOM, calculate the manufacturing BOM of the final product assembly, calculate the cost BOM, maintain the BOM, etc. According to the different application emphases in different stages, we often see different BOM formulations. Common ones are: the DBOM of the design department is the overall information of the product, and the corresponding common text formats are product list, drawing catalogue, material quota list and so on.

The source of design BOM information is generally the title bar and parts list information in a complete set of design drawings provided by the design department. Sometimes it also involves some information on the process card compiled by the process department.

Generally speaking, the design BOM is summarized at the end of the design. If there are a lot of borrowing relationships, you can basically summarize the design BOM at the beginning of the design stage, and then arrange the design tasks according to the newly generated parts.

The corresponding electronic view is usually in the form of a product structure tree, and each node in the tree is associated with various attributes or graphic information. It mainly appears in PDM software as the basic data of product management and drawing file management. The MBOM of the production department is based on EBOM, which is improved according to the requirements of manufacturing and assembly, including JBOM for processing parts and PBOM for blanks, molds and fixtures according to the process requirements. It can also be called process BOM. Corresponding common text formats include process route table, key process summary table, key parts list, self-made parts list, general parts list, general special tooling list, equipment list, etc.

The information of manufacturing BOM comes from the contents of the process card compiled by the general process department, but the design BOM is the basic data content.

Corresponding to the electronic view, product parts often appear in the form of assembly process BOM, while parts often appear in the form of specific processing process BOM, more of which are mechanical processing process BOM or production and processing flow line process BOM. Each node in the tree is associated with process information such as tools, equipment, working hours, machining drawings and so on. Assembly process BOM, which is of great value to enterprises, mainly appears in ERP software as the basic data of production planning. Sales BOM is a product structure component configured according to user's needs. The corresponding common text formats include basic parts list, general parts list, special parts list, optional parts list, replacement parts list, special requirements change notice, etc. In some manufacturing industries, higher requirements are put forward for sales BOM, which requires that each BOM can track the material information of each batch of orders in the whole life cycle, and each customer order has a unique or several sales BOM determined according to the quantity of ordered products. At this time, the sales BOM is usually called the customer BOM.

The source of sales BOM information is generally a summary of detailed information of different types of parts of a series of products with different specifications.

It mainly appears in PDM software as the basic data of product configuration management. The maintenance service department generates it according to the maintenance requirements, and the corresponding text formats include the list of wearing parts, the list of spare parts, the list of wearing parts and consumable parts, etc.

The source of maintaining BOM information is generally selected from the record attributes corresponding to the design BOM to obtain the detailed information of consumables, spare parts and vulnerable consumables.

Generally, the summary is completed in PDM software, and it can also be used as basic data in ERP software. Raw materials, standard parts and kits purchased according to production requirements are produced, and the corresponding text formats mainly include purchased parts list, outsourced parts list, self-made parts list and material detail summary.

The source of purchasing BOM information generally comes from the information summary on design drawings and process cards. The purchasing department or the production preparation department arranges the purchasing plan and production plan accordingly.

In general, PDM system can summarize the corresponding purchasing BOM information according to the drawings and process information, but if you want to obtain the dynamic purchasing BOM information of product batches, it must be completed in ERP system. For example, 100 sets of bulk purchasing BOM and 10000 sets of bulk purchasing BOM may have great changes in outsourcing and outsourcing. The outsourcing cost of some parts may be lower when the batch is small, but it can be done by itself when the batch is large. Is produced by MRPⅱⅱ system. When the enterprise defines the management standards of standard cost, suggested cost and current cost of parts, the system automatically generates CBOM by accumulating PBOM and machining center. Used for manufacturing cost control and cost variance analysis.
