The typical American diet has undergone major changes. It is worth noting that the United States is a very large and diverse group. Our geographical boundaries cover many climates and histories, which means that popular food choices vary from place to place.

However, I also live in Wisconsin and Minnesota, where people seldom eat fish because it is not fresh enough, tastes bad and can't afford it. This is a traditional Italian dish, but after several generations of evolution, it is no longer like Italian pizza.
When I lived in Wisconsin, there were a large number of German immigrants, so our popular dishes in Wisconsin were all German dishes, such as wurst, sauerkraut, beer, thick cheese and so on.
In contrast, Seattle has a large number of Asian immigrants. So Asian food is very common and popular. For example, roast chicken (there are many such places everywhere), traditional Vietnamese rice noodles, and so on.
In Utah and Texas where I live now, our diet is mainly Mexican food, because we are close to the Mexican border and there are a large number of Mexican immigrants in our area. In fact, the word "Temex" means "Temex" or Texan interpretation of Mexican food.
