In the process of writing a thesis, references are essential. The citation of references reflects the author's familiarity with the research field, the author's academic vision and respect for the academic achievements of others. According to GB/T 77 14-20 15, the types of references are: monographs, papers, newspaper articles, periodical papers, dissertations, reports, standards, patents, precipitation documents, etc. The most cited references in English thesis writing are mainly periodical papers. Therefore, this paper mainly describes the references (journal papers) and matters needing attention in English papers.

The list of references (journal articles) includes: author, title, journal name, publication year, volume number, issue number, starting and ending page numbers.

Different journals have different requirements for reference formats. When editing references according to the periodical format, you should pay attention to the following matters:

0 1 author's first and last name

In English papers, the names of China people are expressed in Chinese Pinyin, and the first letters of surnames and first names should be capitalized. The writing rules are the same as those of English names. Author's first name comes first, first name comes last, separated by commas, first name comes first and last name comes last, which depends on the requirements of different journals. The names of foreigners are written in this way. If you have a middle name, you can put it after the first name.

Abbreviation, three-character name of China people, surname (single word)+name (two words), such as Hongyu (first name) Dong (surname), can be written as "H.Y. Dong" /Dong, H.Y. "(there is no space between H." H. "and" Y. "). Foreign names with middle names, such as Tranyek, (surname) G. (middle name) Paul, can be written as "P.G. Tranyek"/"Tranyek, P.G." or "P.Tratnyek, P.". No matter which form it is, it must be unified according to the requirements of official document format, and the references of the same article cannot have multiple forms.

Because of different habits, it is easy to reverse the order of "surname" and "first name" of foreign authors, which happens when the author quotes literature. For example:

Correct: Pestovsky, o; Bakac, A. Inorganic Chemistry, 2006, 45(2), 8 14-820.

Error: Oleg, p; Inorganic Chemistry, 2006, 45(2), 8 14-820.

Refer to the title of the article

Some magazines require all the real words in the title of the cited paper to be capitalized, and some journals require the first letter of the first word to be capitalized, no matter what it is.

Capitalize the first letter of the first word: Re-investigate the role of active species in the oxidation of organic common pollutants during the reaction of Cr (vi) with sulfide.

Capitalize the first letter of all content words: Re-investigate the role of active species in the oxidation of organic common pollutants during the reaction of Cr (vi) with sulfide.

When a colon appears in the title, the words after the colon can be capitalized or lowercase, and they are generally more accustomed to capitalization. Either way, it needs to be unified in the same reference.

Zhang. X.y. plum; Sun Yugang; Li; Pan, Bachelor of Arts; Zhang, male; Aging of zero-valent iron in various coexisting solutes: characteristics, reactivity with selenite and regeneration of weak magnetic field. September, Priff. Technology. 20 18, 19 1, 94- 100.

When the subscript appears in the title, it needs to be edited in a standardized way.

03 periodical name

Journal names can be full names or abbreviations. In the whole citation process, abbreviations or full names should be used uniformly according to the requirements of periodicals and should not be confused. You can query the short name or the full name of a periodical name in "Web of Science": click this link to query.

When quoting documents, you should carefully check the names of periodicals and don't change them indiscriminately. There are many periodicals whose names are very similar and easy to be confused. For example, Environmental Science &; Technology "and" environmental science & "letters of science and technology" are just one word, which is easy to be confused. For example, water research, water resources research and water environment research are three completely different magazines with different names.

04, volume number and issue number

It is easy to be mistaken to carefully check the publication year of reference documents, especially those rented and put online at the end of the year. For example, some papers were hired on 20 18 and published on 20 19. Results The author accidentally wrote the publication year as 20 18.

With regard to volume and issue, some magazines require both volume number and issue number in the bibliography, while others only require volume number. In both cases, all references in the whole paper should be numbered as volume number and issue number, or only as issue number. In addition, some authors may confuse the volume number and issue number of references, for example, "Matta R, Tlili S, Chirons, et al. Environmental Chemistry Letters, 20 1 1, 9 (3): 347-353." . In this document, "9" is the volume number and "3" is the issue number. If this expression is used, the references in the whole paper will be used uniformly.

If the reference is a newly published paper with no periodical number and volume number, the DOI number of the article should be added.

Check whether the document in the "References" corresponds to the content in the article.

Academic papers written by graduate students need to be revised repeatedly by tutors before they can be submitted. In the process of repeated revision, there may be confusion of references. Therefore, before submitting a manuscript, it is necessary to carefully check whether the order of the documents in the reference list corresponds to the position in the text.

Check whether the same document appears twice in the document list, and whether the number of documents in the document list is consistent with the number of articles cited in the article. In the process of consulting the references of my forthcoming paper, the author found that the same document appeared twice, and the number of documents in the document list was greater than that cited in the paper. For example, there are 48 articles in the literature list, but only 46 articles are cited in the paper.

06? Choose the cited documents carefully.

In the process of writing a thesis, every cited document must be a document that the author himself has read, or at least a cursory reading.

Citing more recently published papers and citing newly published papers to represent the author's research is a concern at present, which reflects the author's understanding of the recent development in the research field.

For the second citation, that is, the viewpoint in the A file to be cited comes from the B file, the author is generally encouraged to find and quote the most original material (the B file), but if the material is too old, or the author of the A file expands, supplements or denies the contents of the B file, the B file should be cited together.

When citing authoritative papers in high-quality magazines closely related to the research content, the author should try his best to screen the literature as "high-grade". From the perspective of "academic etiquette", there should be no shortage of research by the most famous researchers in the same field in the world, especially the founders.

You can use document management software such as Endnote to import documents in the format required by journals. Although the unified import document format is basically the same, after removing the link of management software, we still need to carefully confirm the references one by one to avoid mistakes.

The above contents are also found in the process of writing my thesis, which may not be comprehensive enough. In addition, the editing of references requires the patience and care of the author, and the standardization of reference editing can also reflect the author's seriousness and care, and will also leave a better impression on the reviewers. Therefore, we need to pay attention to the standardization of references.
