The uniqueness of the Northern Cave Temple is that this Northern Cave Temple and the Southern Cave Temple in Jingchuan County, Pingliang District, Gansu Province were excavated at the same time, and the north and the south set each other off, each with its own characteristics. At present, the North Cave Temple is a national key cultural relic protection unit. It is located 25 kilometers southwest of Xifeng District, Qingyang City, Gansu Province, at the foot of Fushan Mountain on the east bank of the confluence of Puhe River and Ruhe River, 25 kilometers away from the urban area, with an altitude of 1.083 meters. There are 307 existing grottoes and 26 stone carvings, which are one of the four largest grottoes in Gansu Province.

The North Cave Temple consists of Sigou, the first cave in Loudi Village, Shidaopo, Huaying Cliff and Dongtai Cliff, extending 3 kilometers from north to south. It was built by Xi Kangsheng, the secretariat of Jingzhou in the second year of Yongping in the Northern Wei Dynasty. Because it was excavated at the same time with the South Cave Temple in Jingchuan County, Pingliang City, which corresponds to the north and south, it was named North Cave Temple.

There are 23 large stone carvings in the North Grottoes, and there are more than 1,000 statues of Buddha, flying, music, Buddhist biographies and Buddhist story reliefs 1 100 on the four walls, which are quite rich in content. It is the largest, richest and most valuable cave in the northern grottoes. Beidongsi Grottoes cover an area of 7,500 square meters, with a total area of 1.7 million square meters. There are 307 existing grottoes, with stone carvings of 2 1.26 and stone inscriptions of 1.50 square meters. Most of the cultural relics are well preserved and rich in content. They are the treasures of grotto art in the world, and are known as? Four Grottoes in Gansu? One. ?

The whole Beidong Temple is backed by Fuzhongshan on the west side of Dongzhiyuan and faces Puhe River. The Ruhe River in the west enters the Puhe River in front of the cave and flows south. The west bank of Puhe River is the Jushi Gully in zhenyuan county, with Jitou Mountain in the south and Dapo Mountain in the north, which is the natural barrier of the northern grottoes. This is a very suitable place to practice. Why are there seven Buddha statues in the North Cave? The origin of seven buddha is that before Buddha Sakyamuni, there were saints who became Buddhas. The names of the buddhas in the first six generations were the corpse Buddha of Pipo, the corpse abandoned Buddha, the floating Buddha of Pishe, the detained Samson Buddha, the detained Nahan Buddha, the Kaye Buddha and the Sakyamuni Buddha * * * seven buddha.

There are examples of the theme of seven buddha, and seven buddha statues in other caves dug in the early days of the People's Republic of China. However, the statues of seven buddha Cave and seven buddha in a complete sense are the earliest, the grandest and the most representative, which set a precedent for the construction of seven buddha Cave in the future.
