Tianjin painting has a long history, and during the Kangxi and Qianlong periods, Tianjin painting was an important territory for the orthodox style of painting. In the early days of Tianjin calligraphy, there were four great masters, Hua Shikui, Meng Guanghui, Yan Xiu and Zhao Yuanli. The Eight Great Masters of Tianjin Calligraphy and Painting were Wang Xuezhong, Sun Qifeng, Sun Kegzang, Wang Songyu, Xiao Lang, Aisin Gioro Pu Zuo, Zhao Songtao, and Mu Zhongqin, while the calligraphy and painting skills of Hongyi Master Li Shutong were equally superb. Contemporary painters and calligraphers include He Jiaying, Huo Chunyang and Wu Yuyang.
