In 1943, I became an apprentice to Zhimeizhai Restaurant, a famous Shandong-style restaurant in Tianjin, under the tutelage of the famous chef Wang Dianchen. Later, he went to Dengyinglou, a century-old shop in Tianjin, to study with Zhang Tingcai, a master of Shandong cuisine, and worked in Tianjin, Shanghai and Beijing successively.
In p>1958, Zhang Wenhai was transferred to Beijing and worked in Xijiao Hotel and Dongfang Hotel successively. He once served as the head chef of Xijiao Hotel in Beijing, the head chef of Dongfang Hotel and the technical consultant of the general manager. After retirement, he still served as a catering consultant for many units such as Kuangou Guest House of Beijing Municipal Government.
during his decades of cooking career, Zhang Wenhai mainly served in government reception. No matter where he worked, his cooking was praised by central leaders and foreign guests and colleagues.
in p>1985, he was awarded as a first-class cook, and in 1986, he was awarded as an excellent senior chef in Beijing. In 1986, 1991, 1992 and 1993, he was awarded as an activist of Beijing Xuanwu District Association for Science and Technology for many years. 1991 was listed in Who's Who of Chefs in China, and later in Biography of Famous Chefs in Jinghua. In March, 2112, he was selected as "National Chef".

Zhang Wenhai has made great contributions to the development of Shandong cuisine, to the promotion of Chinese cooking technology and food culture, and has trained a large number of highly skilled talents for the successors of Chinese cooking.
