Rush hour
Rush hour varies by industry, government business organization or service.
In terms of transportation, this generally refers to the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on a normal day. Because these two hours are the time when most companies commute to and from work and when schools go to and from school, traffic congestion usually occurs during peak hours, so some companies use flexible working hours to solve the problem. Mass transit carriers also run extra trips to move passengers during peak hours.
Some cities have implemented measures to ease traffic flow by shifting lanes on roads with large differences in traffic volumes into the city, or even imposing a tax on entering the city or restricting single- and double- numbered license plates. The peak hours for medium- and long-distance traffic are usually from the evening of the day before to the evening of the last day of the holiday.
For the food and beverage industry, the peak hours are from 6 to 8 a.m. for breakfast, from 12 to 2 p.m. for lunch and from 5 p.m. for dinner. For leisure facilities such as movie theaters, children's playgrounds, and scenic areas, the peak hours tend to fall on holidays. Financial institutions usually have peak times at the beginning and end of each month.
Peak times for Internet and telephone vary by area, with daytime traffic higher during the workday in business districts, but higher in the evening until midnight in residential areas.
The hour of maximum traffic is called the peak hour. On the daily traffic volume change chart, the traffic volume during that time is shown as a peak. Foreign city traffic peaks mostly occur in the morning before work and after work in the afternoon, with the afternoon being the highest. China's motor vehicle peak mostly due to freight vehicles, so often appear in the morning after work for a period of time.
The peak traffic period is divided into morning peak and evening peak.
