Changchun, referred to as "Chang" for short or "Spring City" in ancient times, was called "Xidu", "Tea Rushing" and "Huanglongfu". It is the capital of Jilin Province, a sub-provincial city and the central city of Northeast Asia economic circle. It is one of the central cities in Northeast China located by the State Council, a national historical and cultural city, and an important industrial base and comprehensive transportation hub in China.
Changchun is located in Songliao Plain, the hinterland of northeast plain in China. It is adjacent to Songyuan City in the northwest, Siping City in the southwest, Jilin City in the southeast and Harbin City in Heilongjiang Province in the northeast. It is the natural geographical center of Northeast China, an important node city of the northern line of the Belt and Road Initiative, a node city of China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor, a strategic hinterland city of Changji-Tumen and a core city of Harbin-Changchun urban agglomeration.
Changchun is an open city along the coast, which is in the core area of the Chang-Ji-Tu development and opening-up pilot zone. During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, Changchun will speed up the construction of a regional central city in Northeast Asia and a core area for innovation and transformation in central Jilin, and then build "six" billion-level strategic emerging industries such as advanced equipment manufacturing, biology and medicine, photoelectric information, new energy vehicles, new materials and big data.
In recent years, Changchun's economy has taken the lead in returning to a reasonable range from a low-speed growth range in Northeast China. Its economic growth rate has continued to lead the four cities in Northeast China, and its economic structure has been continuously optimized. It has been praised by many mainstream media in Europe and America as a "model of the world industrial city".
