Breakfast: a simple breakfast, which may be juice, cereal, toast and coffee. A hearty breakfast can also include pancakes, cornflakes, sausages, ham and various eggs. Oatmeal porridge that Americans often drink is made of oats and mixed with milk and sugar. Corn flakes are small, crisp brown flakes made of corn flour, soaked in white sugar and milk until soft.
My hearty breakfast
Americans usually have breakfast at home. However, breakfast is sometimes used to discuss business or raise funds, which is called "working breakfast". Businessmen and politicians sometimes have breakfast with colleagues to start a new day. The president often has breakfast with congressional leaders, during which he can learn about the prospect of completing the legislative process of his bill. Churches and societies often hold fund-raising breakfast meetings, and volunteers will prepare a hearty breakfast for guests who pay a certain fee.
Lunch: Because lunch time is short, many people go to work far from home. People who go to work or school seldom go home for lunch, but bring meals from home. American lunch is the simplest of the three meals. It is usually eaten with vegetables and sandwiches, hamburgers or Italian pizza, hot dogs and drinks.
Dinner: Americans attach great importance to dinner. Many friends' parties and business banquets are arranged in the evening, so dinner is generally rich.
Usually fruit juice or soup is served first, and then the main course is served. The main courses we often eat are steak (beef), pork chop (pork chop), roast beef (roast beef), fried chicken (roast chicken), fried shrimp (roast shrimp), ham and roast lamb chop. Vegetables, bread, butter, rice, noodles and so on are eaten with the main course. Europeans are used to eating fruit or cheese at the end, which is out of fashion in America. Most Americans like to eat desserts in restaurants, such as cakes, biscuits or ice cream, and finally have a cup of coffee.
