Jiangyan city belonged to Wu, Yue and Chu successively during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, and the Qin Dynasty belonged to Donghai County. In the sixth year of Yuan Shou (117 BC), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty set Hailing County, and in the third year of Wude in Tang Gaozu (621), Hailing was changed to Wuling. In 937, the Southern Tang Dynasty was promoted to Taizhou, meaning Antai. In the early years of the Republic of China, a county was set up in the abandoned state, and Taizhou was ruled by the county.
