The Toronto headquarters of Ya Bu Pushelberg Design Company and its branch in new york have been separated for many years. "I'm tired of living in hotels in new york." Ji Ya Bu, head of the company, said. At present, the company's three hotel projects are located in new york, so Glenn Pushelberg, a partner and life partner of Ya Bu Company, hopes to create a residence that is completely suitable for them. On the other hand, the famous chef Jean Gees Vongerichten invited the couple to participate in the design, which made the two Canadian designers finally choose to take root in the United States.

Four years ago, restaurant owner von Grichton invited Pushelberg to visit the vacant ground floor of a glass box designed by richard meier & Partners Architects in richard meier on the Hudson River. Although Thomas Jules Hansen was finally commissioned to design the Perry Street restaurant in Von Gerry Heaton, that visit gave two Canadian architects a preliminary understanding of the building. After recent observation and understanding of the Manhattan real estate market, the couple bought an apartment on the upper floor of the building.

When the developer delivered the entire second floor with a building area of 4,000 square feet to the couple,
Ceiling and floor are almost the most primitive concrete structures. "They left us a $35 swimming pool and a $65,438+000 bathroom without any partition." Ya Bu recalled the absurd property management in new york at that time. Of course, these situations are temporary. However, the purchase of such an unfinished house means that a drainage pipe needs to be drawn from the completed apartment. During the one-year period when Ya Bu conceived the design of this huge central hall, the apartment remained vacant. "If we started earlier, the overall layout might be a little different," he admitted. Design of Giyab & Glenn Pushelberg's new york Residence (Figure 8)

Gypsum board ceiling completely blocks the exposed pipes of concrete floor and roof. Meyer used to wash slender cast-in-place concrete columns with acid to make them rough and gloomy, but Ya Bu decided to polish them to restore some of their original luster. "We are looking for the feeling that a house should have, not the building itself." He said. Although the materials they use are not as gorgeous as those used to design hotels, all the finished surfaces show the characteristics that designers are famous for their attention to detail. "We didn't use any materials that were too luxurious. Walls without tiger-spotted neem or leather finishes. " Pourchayre Berg pointed out.

On the premise of not cutting down trees, in order to make woodworking products have an unusual and unique touch, designers choose to use recyclable Indian old laurel wood materials to make bedroom wardrobes. They are also combined into pieces of wood hanging on the wall, and the horizontal door above can open to the master bedroom suite and two rooms. "There are two different lives in the apartment," Pushelberg said of public space and private space. "Our private lives are hidden behind secret doors."

All the bedrooms are covered with beige wool carpets, which makes Ya Bu's "1960s feeling" come true. However, the floor of the suite bathroom is made of calcareous materials once used in public areas-an Italian stonemason once used it in his shop, just like a life-size puzzle. (Before laying the floor, the employees of Ya Bu Pushelberg Company were sent to Italy to check the color continuity of the slate. )

Because the exterior wall is glazed, each room is equipped with French windows and translucent white linen blended curtains. In the kitchen, the white LED strip is hidden at the edge of the ceiling dome, shines on the soft cloth along the hanging curtains, and finally falls behind the washbasin countertop. Open the curtains, and the apartment on the second floor looks like a crystal clear glass fish tank. Pushelberg still remembers meeting a neighbor and asking them where they bought the sofa in their residential area before they entered the apartment.
The couple put a lot of custom-made items in the apartment, all from Toronto pipes. There is a boudoir-style tufted sofa specially made by a furniture manufacturer in the media room. The three-legged low stool placed in the living area originally belonged to Canadian furniture giant Klaus Nienkamper. Jacob and Pushelberg have been raising them for ten years.

Designers find these works of art and furniture from all over the world. "We have visited 65,438+05 countries, and now we have far more than 100 works of art," said Pourchayre Berg. The acrylic sphere inlaid with deer head in the restaurant is the work of Japanese artists. The white woven carpet with polar bear skin pattern laid in the living area and a pair of Asian modern art stools next to it are all Italian. This was discovered by a Milan furniture dealer in Kerry Beauchemin, a new york design shop "B4". In fact, it took Beauchemin several years to use a low stool in his living room, and then he was equipped with a distinctive green cushion. Sometimes, it really takes a lot of effort to find these interesting things with different shapes.
