This is my first article written systematically. In the initial stage, I wrote three articles: the design, storage and purchase of cabinets. In the medium term, I plan to gradually improve all kinds of customized furniture, and in the later stage, I mainly design detailed dimensions for the space of various parts of my home.

the most important thing in a home is not the walls around it, but the size of all kinds of furniture and space that exist in it. Only the right size can make our life more comfortable. Therefore, the focus of my article is the size, dynamic line and modular design of each part, so that it can be used directly if it is taken.

The design focuses on the design of Nakajima module, lighting design and other details. Other contents are basic knowledge, and those who have some knowledge of cabinets can skip it.

11 Cabinet introduction and size

1. Floor cabinet and countertop

Function introduction

This area is generally divided into three functional areas: stove area, vegetable preparation area and basin area, which is also a necessary area for all kitchens.

(1) Stove area: it is the area usually used for cooking. Generally, this area is composed of a stove and cigarette machine or an integrated stove.

the advantage of the integrated stove is that it can save money for a section of floor cabinets and countertops, while the disadvantage is that it reduces the storage space of about half of the floor cabinets.

(2) Vegetable preparation area: the area usually used for cutting vegetables and arranging ingredients is an area that is easily overlooked by everyone. But it is also an important area. If the food preparation area is too small, it will lead to chaos in the kitchen when cooking.

Generally, there are two ways to solve the problem that the vegetable preparation area is too small. One is to temporarily change some basin areas into vegetable preparation areas through chopping boards, and the other is to increase vegetable preparation areas through Nakajima.

(3) basin area: This is mainly the part of washing vegetables and washing dishes. Personally, I suggest that a single basin should be as large as possible, whether it is washing pots or washing things, it is cool.

there are three ways to install the basin: upper basin, lower basin and taichung basin (special integrated basin also belongs to taichung basin).

the difference is the position relationship between the edge of the basin and the countertop. The basin on the countertop means that the edge is on the countertop, the basin under the countertop means that the edge is under the countertop, and the basin in the middle means that the edge is flush with the countertop.

personally, I recommend the basin under the platform, because the basin above the platform is inconvenient to take care of and the technical requirements for the installation of the basin above the platform are too high.

size design

first, the depth of the countertop

: generally, there are three sizes: 351mm, 551mm and 611mm. 351mm is mostly used for sideboards and sub-countertops. When the kitchen is narrow and small, 611 mm countertops are most commonly used for more comfortable operation.

height: the normal height is generally, height /2+51mm. Generally, the stove area is 81mm lower than other areas, and the high-low switch is generally located at the corner. It is not recommended to distinguish the basin area from the vegetable preparation area, otherwise the countertop will be too incoherent.

generally, changing the height of a cabinet can be adjusted from one of three places: the table top thickness, the cabinet body height and the foot height. The most common ones are increasing or decreasing the table top thickness and adjusting the foot height.

width: all areas of the kitchen countertop need to be reserved with a certain width

1. Except for the width of the countertop, the countertop area is generally reserved with a width of more than 311mm on the left and right, as shown in Figure A, which is used to stretch the arm and place the dish tray when cooking;

2. Generally, the width of the food preparation area needs to be greater than 811 mm. If it is too small, it will not be displayed when the food is served.

3. Generally, except the width of the basin, at least 311mm should be reserved on the side far away from the vegetable preparation area, as shown in area B. The drainage for the dishes and chopsticks is shown in area B. However, because the overall width of the countertop is not enough, the dishes and chopsticks can be discarded, and the dishes and chopsticks can be drained on the pool or in the bowl basket (with a drain pan). At the same time, the popularity of dishwashers is increasing, so it can be discarded.

second, the depth of the cabinet

: generally, the depth is 551mm, which can meet the use of normal hardware. If IKEA hardware is needed, it needs to be adjusted to 611 mm.. There may be an increase in fees due to non-standard requirements.

height: generally, the height of the cabinet is between 651 mm and 811 mm, but there is basically no need to consider it by yourself, and there are generally standard sizes.

width: generally, it is between 611 mm and 911 mm, and the final width is mainly determined according to the hardware, and the consistency of the cabinet door should be considered.

2. Function introduction of the hanging cabinet

Almost every kitchen has components, whose main function is to supplement vertical storage.

the main disadvantage is that it is too high to take things, which is inconvenient. Although there is a hardware to make up for it, it is not cost-effective because of the high cost. It can be used in combination with open grid to improve convenience.

size design

depth: 311mm-411mm, mainly depending on the depth of the basement. If it is too deep, it is easy to meet.

height: generally speaking, the height of the hanging cabinet should not be greater than that of the ground cabinet, which may easily lead to a top-heavy feeling. Therefore, the height of the hanging cabinet is generally between 511mm-811mm.

width: generally, the width is less than 811mm, and the width of a single door is less than 411mm.

hanging height: generally, where there is a hood, the hanging cabinet needs to be hung at 1711mm-1811mm, and the sideboard can be hung at 1411mm-1611mm.

3. Introduction of high cabinets

Functions

Generally speaking, high cabinets are divided into three types: refrigerator high cabinets, electrical high cabinets and storage high cabinets.

(1) refrigerator high cabinet: generally speaking, the main function of this high cabinet is to look good as a whole, because the cabinets on the refrigerator are generally not open. As for the choice of refrigerator size, besides the size of your own kitchen, you should also look at your cooking habits. If you like baking, you should recommend double doors.

(2) Electrical cabinet: it is mainly used for placing ovens, steamers, dishwashers, microwave ovens, etc. It is as deep as the top and bottom, and its depth and width are basically 611 mm..

(3) high storage cabinets: generally, this kind of high cabinets will be used only when the home area is relatively large, and it is more convenient to take things with the help of monster hardware, but the cost is higher.

size design

depth: it is generally located near the table top. In order to facilitate the installation of various embedded appliances, the depth is generally 611 mm.

height: it is in the same plane as the highest part of the hanging cabinet, and the visual effect is good, generally 2211mm-2411mm.

width: designed according to the respective sizes of embedded appliances, refrigerators and hardware.

4. Introduction of functions of Nakajima

The standard of an open kitchen can be said to be a collection of various functions.

It is not only an extension of the food preparation area, but also a temporary dining table. At the same time, it has a powerful storage function. How to use it depends mainly on your own needs.

One small detail is that sockets can be arranged on Nakajima, which is convenient for all kinds of kitchen appliances and mobile phones.

5. Introduction to the functions of sideboard

Although it is used in restaurants, it is generally customized together with cabinets. Mainly used for storage in restaurants, and can also be used as a separate western kitchen.

size design

depth: as a western kitchen, it is generally 611mm deep in the lower part and 351mm deep in the upper part.

if it is used for storage, the lower part is 451mm deep and the upper part is 251 mm deep, and the middle part can be disconnected or connected.

height: generally not more than 2411 mm.

width: it varies with the width of the restaurant.

6. The open compartment

Functional design

is mostly used under the hanging cabinet to put all kinds of condiments and tools that can be used at will.

size design

depth: 211mm-281mm too deep will be met.

height: 311mm, which is convenient for placing all kinds of condiments.

width: the single compartment should not exceed 511mm as far as possible, which is mainly designed according to the upper cabinet door.

7. Aisle

Single aisle: 911mm wide at best and 711mm wide at least.

aisle for two people: it is best to be 1411mm wide and at least 911mm wide.

Generally speaking, there are five common layout forms, I, II, L, U and Island.

Because the locations of kitchens in China, such as flues, windows and doors, have been determined in advance, what we can do is how to choose the layout that suits us in a fixed space.

1, straight

generally used in the open kitchen of an apartment, the kitchen is located in the corridor, so it is necessary to arrange a row of cabinets against the wall. The arrangement is also relatively simple, just follow the order of washing-cutting-frying and calculate the required length of each part.

2. Word

Generally, there is a life balcony outside the kitchen. At the same time, the kitchen door is facing the balcony door. Because it needs to pass through the middle of the kitchen, it is designed with cabinets on both sides. The main table is arranged according to type I, and the follow-up of the auxiliary table needs to be designed.

However, we should pay attention to several issues. First, the aisle is generally 911mm, which is more comfortable. Even if the space is tight, it must be 711mm, otherwise it will be inconvenient to use. Secondly, the normal depth of the main mesa is 611mm, which can be at least 551mm, and the auxiliary mesa can be at least 351 mm. So the total width of the kitchen needs at least 1611 mm.

3. L-shape

This is the most commonly used layout, because the doors of the kitchen in general are open at the edge of a corner, so you can't make a U-shape but an L-shape.

The common layout is that the cooking area or the vegetable washing area is in the short-side vegetable preparation area and the remaining one is in the long side in order. How to choose the location mainly depends on gas, flue and sewage.

4. U-shaped

is known as the most perfect kitchen layout, which not only moves smoothly, but also can have a longer countertop in the same space.

But the biggest problem in making a U-shaped cabinet is that it needs a rectangular kitchen, and the door is open on the long side and there can be no balcony door.

so not all kitchens are used, and there is one more corner of the U-shaped kitchen. Although the countertop is longer, its advantages are limited, so there is no need to force it.

5. Island type

When it comes to island type, everyone's first impression is that it can only be used in a big house. In fact, you can use it as long as you want to make an open kitchen (there is a 1.6m middle island in my house with 51 square meters). And because of the appearance of integrated stoves, there is not so much oil smoke in the open kitchen.

The advantages of the island-type kitchen include more storage and countertops, and the most important thing is that its style can be flexible. Besides being placed on the side, the vegetable washing area and the cooking area can also be placed on the middle island, allowing more people to participate in cooking.

Therefore, I would like to recommend several island designs.

1. The island in the cooktop and basin (all the important functions of the main kitchen are gathered in the island)

2. The island in the pool and bar (mainly used as high and low countertops for the bar, The pool is used for washing fruits and drinking directly, so it is relatively small)

3. Storage, island in operation (it is mainly used as an extension of the countertop and storage without any functional parts)

4. Bar, operating peninsula (one side of which is connected with the cabinet, which can be used as a high and low countertop or a flat surface)

5. Operation, island in the dining table (island that combines the operating table with the dining table, The kitchen and dining room can be combined to have a good overall effect)

13 Cabinet lighting, the most easily overlooked design

1. Functional lighting layout

Generally speaking, it is better to have separate lighting for several operation areas, rather than just designing a ceiling lamp in the middle of the kitchen.

(1) Each part of the cooktop area (the cooktop can be provided with lighting generally), the vegetable preparation area, the basin area and the island area are designed with lighting separately.

(2) No hanging cabinet above can be directly designed on the roof. If there is a hanging cabinet above, lamps can be installed under the hanging cabinet.

2. Ambient lighting layout

(1) Ambient lighting of the hanging cabinet, such as glass under the door of the hanging cabinet, can be designed for up and down lighting to create ambient lighting.

(2) kicking atmosphere lighting, used under the cabinet can make the whole cabinet feel lighter.

(3) The lighting of high cabinet atmosphere mainly means that the lighting hits the cabinet door, which reflects the texture of the cabinet door.

3. Interior lighting layout

(1) The lighting in the cabinet needs to be illuminated from the outside to the inside, so that the interior of the cabinet can be seen clearly.

(2) lighting in the drawer, the light needs to shine from the inside out, so you can see the items after the drawer is pulled out clearly.

14 Other details to pay attention to

(1) towel bar:

It's best to design one or two towel bar in the cupboard or the island, which is very convenient for drying towels or rags.

(2) wall treatment:

ceramic tiles are selected for the kitchen wall as a whole, and miscellaneous bricks can be used at the shelter of cabinets. In the middle of the hanging cabinet and the ground cabinet, you can use the countertop wall treatment, which can be more convenient to clean and improve the face value.

(3) Guarantee material:

Generally, there are two places in the kitchen that need to be guaranteed, such as flue and gas pipeline. The guarantee material can be ceramic tile, countertop and cabinet board.

(4) top surface treatment:

aluminum gusset plate and gypsum board can be selected for enclosed kitchen, and the latter is expensive but difficult to change later. The open kitchen can also choose not to have a ceiling. At this time, it is necessary to deal with the exhaust pipe of the oil extractor and the gas water heater.

(5) gap between hanging cabinets and high cabinets:

Both hanging cabinets and high cabinets are generally at a certain distance from the roof. Personally, I suggest that the gap less than 111mm can be blocked by edge banding and decorative strips, otherwise it is better to feel that the floor is higher if it is empty. (Some people may be worried about falling dust, so Dyson can suck it regularly, which is actually invisible at ordinary times.)
