Design
The West Pavilion of Suzhou Museum, dubbed "Ten Boxes", was designed by German GMP Architects. GMP has made great achievements in the field of urban public space design around the world, including the reconstruction and expansion project of the National Museum, the Brasilia National Stadium and the Suzhou Second Library.
The design of Suboxi Pavilion inherits the modern design concept of GMP team, which is lasting, simple and practical. Portuguese grey stone is selected for the facade and internal wall of the building. The natural and unique texture and solid and stable materials make the appearance of the venue luxurious and full of charm. The combination of the "Ten Boxes" buildings and the corridors are staggered, which coincides with the streets and lanes in Suzhou and the scattered houses in the south of the Yangtze River.
can the design of the international team and the Soviet-style aesthetics be harmonious and unified? The answer is that in the design stage, there was a collision, dialogue and blending. Repeated revisions have reflected this persistence and mutual respect, which is in harmony with the diverse and inclusive construction style of the West Pavilion and Chen Zhan's concept.
In the end, Suboxi Pavilion retains the open style of the hall, giving you an unobstructed view of the space, but artistic installations are arranged in other exhibition spaces. The ingenious ideas of Suboxi Pavilion are reflected in the details. Jiangnan culture nourished by small bridges and flowing water, conciseness pursued by modern architecture, exquisiteness and elegance of traditional Suzhou gardens, the sense of transparency required by urban public space, and the proper hiding and revealing of cultural relics?
