Genzi Town is a famous hometown of litchi in China. Litchi has been planted for more than 2000 years. Litchi production is famous at home and abroad with "the longest history, the largest area, the highest yield, the best quality, the earliest maturity and the widest market" and is known as "the first town of litchi in China". Yuanba Village is located in Genzi Town, Gaozhou City, Maoming City, Guangdong Province. The characteristic cash crops are litchi and longan, which has created the characteristic brand of "Datang Li Xiang".
Through this investigation, the "Red Ant" practice team learned about the development history and related introduction of sorghum litchi. Gaoliang litchi has a long history of development, and planting litchi in Maoming Gaozhou (called "Gaoliang" in ancient times, referring to the area around changpo town in Gaozhou today) has a long history since the end of Qin Dynasty. According to Xijing Miscellanies, as early as the early Western Han Dynasty, Zhao Tuo, king of South Vietnam, presented litchi as a treasure of Lingnan to Emperor Gaozu, which is the earliest record of litchi tribute. " During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Maoming litchi was often used as a local specialty to pay tribute to the imperial court. Up to now, Maoming has called these ancient litchi forests, which have survived for a hundred years, "Gong Yuan".
About the introduction of litchi, litchi likes high temperature, high humidity and sunshine, and its growth needs unique climatic conditions. Litchi in China is mainly distributed in the range of north latitude 18-29 degrees, thus forming a unique distribution area. Guangdong has the most cultivation, followed by Guangxi and Hainan, and Fujian, Yunnan, Guizhou and Taiwan Province provinces also have a large number of cultivation. The growth and fruiting characteristics and fruit physiological characteristics of litchi require corresponding technical support for seedling raising, pest control, insurance storage and transportation, processing and comprehensive development. After natural screening and domestication, varieties suitable for local cultivation have been selected from all over the country so far.
