Mao Xinyu

Preface

Mao Xinyu once said:"No matter whether I go to Chairman Mao's Memorial Hall, or to Shuangqing Villa in Xiangshan Mountain, and other places my grandfather fought in his lifetime, in my heart I will always think like this: grandpa! I'm looking at me! What have I done, what are some of my achievements, how can I face the old man, how can I explain to his old man."

Shao Hua had a hard time giving birth to a baby, and the Maoists said that the baby and the adults should be preserved.

In mid-January 1970, the aftertaste of the New Year had not completely dissipated, and Shao Hua, who was pregnant with her baby, suddenly felt a twinge of pain, and her family immediately sent her to Beijing's 301st Hospital.

Faced with the imminent arrival of a new life, first-time father Mao Banqing was both excited and apprehensive, rubbing his hands together in the corridor outside the maternity ward, eagerly awaiting the first cry of the newborn from the lǐ face.

At this time in Zhongnanhai, in the revolutionary era, even in the face of the enemy, Chairman Mao did not change his color, but appeared to be a little nervous, he pulled his finger to calculate the time, anxiously waiting for the news from the hospital.

Chairman Mao

However, as the clock ticked away, Chairman Mao waited and waited, but no staff member came in to report the news, so he frowned and tossed and turned in his bed.

At this time in 301 Hospital, the doctors and nurses who delivered Shao Hua's baby were very busy. Because Shao Hua is an elderly woman, was pushed into the delivery room, she has been in the hospital bed struggling, stomach pain all over the body can not make strength, the child for half a day did not move.

Doctors discussed the countermeasures, suggesting the implementation of Caesarean section, but the mother is Chairman Mao's daughter-in-law, they dare not take their own ideas, so they had to report to the top: "The head circumference of the fetus is too large, can not come out, and then this stalemate, the mother and the child can not be saved. Quickly go and inform Chairman Mao, let the chairman make a decision."

Not long after, the duty room in Zhongnanhai rang with a rush of telephone bells, Chairman Mao's side of the staff received the hospital reported an emergency.

The staff did not dare to have a moment's delay, hung up the phone and ran to Chairman Máo's bedroom, and as soon as he entered the door, he said in a panic: "It's not good, Chairman, Comrade Shao Hua had a hard time giving birth, and the hospital asked you whether to protect the big hái or the small?"

After hearing this, Chairman Mao sat up from the bed in a flash, straightened up, and said resolutely:"What is this saying, quickly talk to them, the adults and the child have to be preserved!"

Chairman Mao

This sudden news made the 77-year-old Chairman Mao a long time out of his mind, and suddenly coughed loudly, and his shoulders shook with the cough. The staff rushed to calm the Chairman: "Don't worry, I'll notify the hospital now!"

After that, the staff hurriedly conveyed Chairman Mao's instructions.

Doctors and nurses received the "instructions" and immediately proceeded with the C-section.

Shao Hua, who was already weak to the core, exhausted all her strength and gave birth to her child with the reproductive instincts of a "mother".

Chairman Mao, Mao Shiqing, and Shao Hua

In this way, Chairman Mao's grandson made his first cry in the world, and was born with the expectations of all the Mao family.

The youngster looked just like Chairman Mao, and was a combination of his father, Mao Anqing, and his mother, Shao Hua, who were smart and smiling.

When the news came that the mother and child were safe, Chairman Mao's heart finally dropped. The thought that he has a grandson, Chairman Mao smiled a liǎn brilliant, the heart is like the moonlight spread over the earth, warm and melting.

Chairman Mao

And when Chairman Mao held his grandson in his arms for the first time, he couldn't hold back the joy in his heart, and personally named his grandson. He said, "The revolution has a third generation, they can create a new world, let's call it 'Xinyu'!"

The name held Chairman Mao's boundless expectations for Mao Xinyu.

Later, Mao Xinyu also recounted the deep meaning embedded in his name, saying, "My name was given by my grandfather. Xinyu, which stands for new heaven and earth, the old man hoped that I would contribute to society and the country in the future."

In the eyes of ordinary people, the elders who have become grandfathers should enjoy "the joy of embracing their grandchildren in their twilight years, and the facial lines of the temples are tangled with cans of silk. The sun is setting and the children's hearts are warming, enjoying the day of drunkenness", but Chairman Mao has been busy for the country, for the people all his life, he can't like ordinary people's grandpa, often accompanied by grandchildren. Mao Xinyu, too, was unable to climb onto his grandfather's knee as often as the children of ordinary people, and pampered him.

While the time he spent with Chairman Mao was limited, the little moments he spent with him were always imprinted in Mao Xinyu's mind, leaving him with precious memories.

Mao Xinyu recalled, "Between the ages of 3 and 4, my mother regularly found some opportunities to take me to Zhongnanhai. I met and stayed with my grandfather."

Mao Anqing, Shao Hua and Mao Xinyu

On one occasion, Chairman Mao held Mao Xinyu on his lap and told him idioms and allusions in a soft tone. Chairman Mao spoke earnestly and devotedly, and Mao Xinyu listened in ignorance, but also intoxicated. Chairman Mao's stomach has endless stories, and also told Mao Xinyu about the Monkey King's "heroic deeds" of "punishing evil and fighting for justice".

While Mao was still young, Chairman Mao was keen to instill in him good character, hoping to plant in his young heart the seeds of bravery and courage of the descendants of revolutionaries.

By the side of his father, Mao Anqing, and his mother, Shao Hua, Mao Xinyu enjoyed his father's unfailing love and his mother's stern teaching, which was different from the general family tíng of "strict father, kind mother" discipline.

Since Mao Anqing grew up, he spent countless brutal days displaced and without a place to live. He wanted his son to be spared the hardships of life, so he doted on him. According to Shao Hua back yì:

When Xiao Xinyu was first born, he was overjoyed, but he couldn't hold the child as if he were a winter melon; he would only hold him vertically, not horizontally, and beardedly kissed the child on the face, kissing the child and making him wail. He never yells at the child, let alone hits him. I sometimes have a short temper and can't help but hit Xinyu when I see him being naughty, and he always says that this is not the right way to educate him, and that you should give him some reasoning.

Under the careful care of his parents, Mao Xinyu grew up carefree and grew into a smart, cute, lively and naughty boy. But after 1974, his chances of meeting Chairman Mao were few and far between.

Mao Xinyu: Are we never going to see Grandpa again?

On September 9, 1976, Chairman Mao died, and there was a great deal of grief in China.

At that time, people had not yet come out from the fear of the earthquake as the cǎn intense Tangshan earthquake had just recently passed. To prevent aftershocks from recurring, 6-year-old Mao Xinyu and his parents lived in a humble earthquake-resistant hut.

At noon on Sept. 9, Mao Xinyu ended his play and ran all the way home, flinging himself into Shao Hua's arms, muttering that he was hungry.

And at that moment, Shao Hua, who had just cried bitterly and had traces of tears all over her face, forced herself to hold back her sadness and said, "Xinyu, you can't be naughty any more, and to tell you the unfortunate news, Grandpa has passed away."

Mao Xinyu was too young and ignorant to understand the meaning of "passed away", but he could see something strange on the adult's face, and vaguely felt that something bad must have happened, so he stared at Shao Hua and eagerly asked:"What does "passed away" mean? "

Shao Hua told Mao Xinyu more directly, "Grandpa was a great man, but people live and die. To pass away is for grandpa to be gone forever."

Forever gone? That is, never to be seen again? Mao Xinyu couldn't help but and continued to ask as if seeking proof:"Grandpa passed away, are we never going to see him again? Will we be able to see him again in the future?"

Shao Hua choked up and said, "Do you feel bad? Cry out if you feel bad."

The moment he received Shao Hua's affirmative answer, Mao Xinyu thought that he would never hear his grandfather's mellow voice again, never see his loving and dear face again, and finally couldn't help crying out.

Mao Anqing and Mao Xinyu

During that period of time, Mao Anqing's family did not have the laughter of the past. After that, whenever Mao Xinyu passed by the family's hearth and saw the statue of Chairman Mao placed in the center of the hearth, he couldn't help but stare at it for a long time, muttering, "My favorite grandpa will never be seen again."

Many years later, when asked about the most unforgettable thing about Chairman Mao, Mao Xinyu said:"The saddest thing that I look back on now is that the news of my grandfather's death was told to me by my mother in person, so it's something I can't forget for the rest of my life."

In October 1976, the central government decided to permanently preserve Chairman Mao's body and to prepare for the construction of the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall. Learning of this news, Mao Anqing and Shao Hua were somewhat comforted.

On November 24, 1976, the groundbreaking ceremony for Chairman Mao's Memorial Hall was held in Tiananmen Square. Since then, Chairman Mao's Memorial Hall was completed on May 24, 1977, after half a year of day and night work by an army of builders from all over the country.

This will be the place where Chairman Mao will lie in state and where the people of China will spread their endless thoughts about him. At the same time, it will also be the place where Mao Anqing, Shao Hua, and Mao Xinyu will y honor the memory of Chairman Mao.

Chairman Mao Memorial Hall (1978)

On May 24, when she learned of the completion of the hall, Shao Hua smiled a long-lost smile. She notified her family's driver in advance that she was going out for the evening, and said happily, "The whole family will have an early dinner."

Shao Hua's joy was also passed on to Mao Xinyu, who excitedly asked, "Why are you having dinner so early, are you taking me to some nice place to play in the evening?"

Shao Hua had a smile on her face:"Today mom and dad are very happy, because grandpa's memorial hall has just been completed, this evening by night, mom hugged you to the memorial hall to take a turn."

That night, Shao Hua took Mao Xinyu by car to Tiananmen Square. Mao Xinyu was curious about everything in front of him, and his eyes lit up as he pointed to Chairman Mao's Memorial Hall in the distance and asked Shao Hua, "Mom, what is that place? So beautiful?"

Shao Hua quietly tilted his head and gazed at the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, and earnestly said to Mao Xinyu, "This is the place where Grandpa will sleep for a long time. Grandpa rested here. Aren't you always asking if we can see Grandpa in the future after he passes away? In the future, we can bring you here every year to see grandpa."

Mao Anqing, Shao Hua, and Mao Xinyu at Chairman Mao's Memorial Hall

In this way, Shao Hua took Mao Xinyu around the perimeter of Mao's main xíji niàn hall over and over again. They used a silent, wordless way to vent their grief over being separated from their loved ones. That night, mother and son used their instinctive sensitivity to feel the scent of the place, and the sound of their thoughts resounded in this empty zone.

Shao Hua asked Mao Xinyu, "Is the place where grandpa rests beautiful?"

Mao Xinyu replies, "It's beautiful, it's beautiful."

"The Memorial Hall has become a window for me to communicate with my grandfather's mind."

In the summer of 1977, Mao Anqing and Shao Hua brought Mao Xinyu dào Harbin to escape the summer heat, and Chairman Mao's guards in his lifetime heard about the news and came to visit.

When it was noon, Mao Anqing and Shao Hua were resting at their place of residence, and the staff took Mao Xinyu to greet the guard and introduced him, saying, "This is the Chairman's grandson, his own grandson."

As soon as the words left his mouth, the guard, who was more than half a century old, trembled and walked to Mao Xinyu's side, held him tightly in his arms, and cried emotionally.

Mao Xinyu, who was only seven years old, suddenly froze, not understanding why the guard was suddenly so emotional.

Mao Anqing's family visited the factory

After he grew up, Mao Xinyu recalled the scene and was y moved by the guard's admiration for President Máo. At the same time, he also gradually understand the hundreds of millions of Chinese people's special feelings for their grandfather, Chairman Mao.

Since the completion of the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Mao Anqing and Shao Hua often took the young Mao Xinyu to the Hall.

When Mao Xinyu was young, he followed his parents to Chairman Mao Memorial Hall on Sept. 9 and Dec. 26 every year and often met staff members who used to work beside Chairman Mao.

Those staff members spent a lot of time with Chairman Mao and gained a period of immortal memories. After bowing to the seated statue of Chairman Mao, Mao Xinyu would walk among them and listen to their stories of Chairman Mao's life. There were some things that Mao Xinyu did not understand, as cǐ he listened with great fascination.

Shao Hua and Mao Xinyu

On one occasion, Wu Liandeng, Chairman Mao's former butler, remembered a story about Chairman Mao, about the origin of the five big words "Serve the People" engraved on the shadow wall of Zhongnanhai.

Wu Lian Deng recalled ......

One day, Wang Dongxing accompanied Chairman Mao on an outing. In the car, Chairman Mao suddenly opened his mouth and asked Wang Dongxing: "Dongxing ah, this shadow wall, are you considering giving it use?"

Wang Dongxing said nimbly, "This place also has to write your words."

Chairman Mao pondered while saying, "Write what?"

Wang Dongxing had a bright idea: "Serve the people."

Chairman Mao praised the idea and said happily:"Good! This is the gate of the Party, the gate of the people. We, the ****production party, are for the people, and to write it here is to educate the cadres of the whole party and the whole country not to forget that we are for the people."

The five big words "serve the people" on the shadow wall were thus born.

It can be said that talking with these staff members gave Mao Xinyu more opportunities to get "close" to his grandfather, Chairman Mao, and to have a more comprehensive and deeper understanding of Chairman Mao.

He once said: "The memorial hall has become a window of communication between me and my grandfather's heart."

Winter and spring have passed, and many years have passed. Today, Mao Xinyu is the father of two children. He still takes his family to Chairman Mao's Memorial Hall on a fixed day each year.

Mao Xinyu's family

Mao Xinyu once said:

I was touched when I saw people lining up in front of the Memorial Hall in a long line, waiting to go in and admire the President's remains under the scorching sun or in the drizzle. Grandpa carried the people in his heart and loved the people all his life, and the people loved him. Many people put their feelings for their grandfather on me, wanting to take a picture with me and wishing me and my children good health.

After the death of Chairman Mao, his face and laughter, and his advice to the Mao family have always been remembered in the depths of Mao Xinyu's heart, and did not fade away with the change of the years, Chairman Mao will always be present in the corridor of Mao Xinyu's memory.

At the same time, also exists in the memory of millions of people ......
