Guilin, located in the northeast of Guangxi, is the political, economic, cultural and scientific center of the northeast of Guangxi. Qin Shihuang was located in Guilin, Xiang and Nanhai counties in 214 BC. Yuan belongs to Huguanghang Province, and then to jing jiang Road, a book province in Guangxi. Ming and Qing Dynasties belong to Guilin, Guangxi Province.
1911 was the capital of Guangxi. In 1914, it was renamed Guilin County. Guilin was founded in 1941. From October 1944 to July 1945, it was occupied by the Japanese aggressors. After the retrocession, it became a city under the jurisdiction of Guangxi Province.

On July 1, 1981 and October 8, 1983, Yangshuo and Lingui were placed under the jurisdiction of Guilin. Soil
Guilin is located in the southwest of Nanling Mountain System, belonging to red loam zone, mainly red soil. The pH value is 4.5 ~ 6.5. According to its parent material, it can be divided into five soil types, 14 subtypes, 36 soil genera and 89 varieties, such as red loam, calcareous soil, purple soil, impact soil and paddy soil. River alluvial parent material sandy loam and paddy soil, with deep soil layer and good tillage, is a high-yield area of rice and vegetables. Medium calcareous soil and black calcareous soil are suitable for dry land crops and forestry production. [9]

Mineral resources
Guilin is rich in mineral resources. There are mainly more than 41 kinds of minerals such as hematite, pyrite, limonite, lead, zinc, tin, tungsten, aluminum, niobium, tantalum, manganese, talc, barite, fluorite, granite, limestone and marble, among which 31 have been proved to have certain reserves. Water resources
There are many rivers in Guilin, including Lijiang River, Xiangjiang River, Luoqingjiang River, Xunjiang River and Zijiang River, and there are 65 tributaries with rainfall collection area of more than 111 square kilometers. The average total water volume in Guilin for many years is 41.38 billion cubic meters, with large river gap and abundant water resources. The theoretical reserve of hydropower is about 2.7 million kilowatts, and the exploitable capacity is 1.17 million kilowatts, which has great development potential. A number of hydropower stations, such as Quanzhou tianhu hydropower station, the first high-head hydropower station in Asia, have been built. [9]
Animal and plant resources
Animal resources: There are many kinds of animals in Guilin, including 1593 species, belonging to 61 orders and 295 families. There are more than 411 species of terrestrial vertebrates, including clouded leopard, yellow-bellied hornbill, pangolin, civet, etc. There are 144 species of aquatic life, including precious giant salamander and eel.
Plant resources: There are more than 1,111 kinds of higher plants in Guilin, including precious trees such as silver fir and ginkgo biloba. Pinus massoniana is the main natural vegetation, osmanthus trees are the main urban areas, and osmanthus is the city flower of Guilin. Forest owners produce Cunninghamia lanceolata and Phyllostachys pubescens. Guilin has a forest area of 1.2156 million hectares and a forest reserve of 37.7442 million cubic meters, which can provide more than 411,111 cubic meters of wood and more than 16 million Phyllostachys pubescens every year.
