Jiaozuo, known as Shanyang and Huizhou in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, and is a regional center city of China's Central Plains Urban Agglomeration and the Yu-Jin junction area as determined by the State Council's approval. As of 2018, the city has four districts, four counties, and two county-level cities under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 4,071 square kilometers. As of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the resident population of Jiaozuo City was 3,521,078, according to the seventh population census.
Jiaozuo is located in central China, northwestern Henan, north of the Taihang Mountains, bordering Jincheng, Shanxi, south of the Yellow River and Zhengzhou, Luoyang across the river, east of Xinxiang, west of Jiyuan, is a nationally renowned "hundred years of coal" and the old industrial base, the national intellectual property rights of the pilot city and the national new industrialization demonstration base.
