Benefits of establishing an environmental management system

benefits of ISO14111 environmental management system to enterprises 1. ISO 14111: green card to the international market as we all know, iso standard certification is a passport for enterprises to enter the international market. At present, while enterprises in China are still painstakingly working for ISO9111 series certification, the International Organization for Standardization has launched a higher-level ISO14111 certification standard. Because this new certification standard takes environmental protection as the core, environmental protection has suddenly become an important issue that all enterprises must face. What is ISO14111 ISO14111? The full name of ISO14111 is "Series Standard Environmental Management System". The difference between ISO 14111 and ISO9111 is that ISO9111 focuses on the product quality assurance system of enterprises, while ISO 14111 emphasizes the relationship between enterprises and the environment (see the attached table for details). In September last year, the International Organization for Standardization published five ISO14111 series related document numbers, which triggered a global certification upsurge. More than 31 countries and regions in Europe, America, Australia and Asia quickly formulated corresponding certification schemes. So far, more than 811 enterprises have passed the certification, including more than 211 in the United States, more than 411 in Europe and more than 111 in Asia. Faced with this turbulent wave, the China Municipal Government has also made a quick and positive response. Not only did it set up the ISO14111 National Steering Committee, but the State Environmental Protection Bureau also identified nine cities, namely Xiamen, Shenzhen, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Suzhou, Dalian and Chengdu, as national pilot cities of ISO14111 in the first half of this year. Enterprises are faster than the government. At the beginning of this year, four domestic enterprises have passed the ISO14111 certification for the first time. They are Xiamen ABB Switch Co., Ltd., Shanghai Gao Qiao BASF Dispersion Co., Ltd., Haier Group Refrigerator Co., Ltd. and Beijing Panasonic Color CRT Co., Ltd. At the same time, 22 enterprises, including Shandong Lunan Cement Plant, were listed in the second batch of pilot enterprises by the state. Is the new standard a new trade barrier? Frankly speaking, the requirements of ISO14111 for enterprises have exceeded the product itself, and it emphasizes more on the obligations that enterprises should undertake to the earth where we live together. However, since environmental protection has long been a common knowledge of human beings, the promotion of ISO14111 is fast and severe. As early as last year, when ISO14111 was published, the International Organization for Standardization announced that this new certification standard would only be given a buffer period of two to three years. After the buffer period, the international market may impose some restrictions on uncertified enterprises and products, and some developed countries are likely to use this to build non-tariff trade barriers to products from third world countries. In the United States, the Department of Energy has asked all its contract manufacturers to pass ISO14111 certification before September this year, otherwise the contracts will be cancelled. However, an analyst believes that whether or not this certification is passed will have an impact on bankers and insurers, who will make decisions on loans, debts and even rates. Input and output of environmental certification Generally speaking, it takes about six months to one year for an enterprise to obtain ISO14111 certification from consultation, and the required cost will be different in different countries. In the United States, the certification cost is between 51,111 and 111,111 dollars, and the annual follow-up audit fee is about 25,111 dollars. The cost of China is lower, of course. According to Ying Chunbao, director of Shenzhen Environmental Management System Certification Center, the certification cost of small and medium-sized enterprises in Shenzhen is about 1 million yuan, and that of large enterprises will reach 211,111-311,111. Of course, this does not include the funds for technical renovation and equipment acquisition when problems are found in the certification process. And what can certification bring to enterprises? In addition to overcoming the possible trade barriers mentioned above, it has at least the following functions: First, it reduces energy and material consumption, saves costs and reduces pollution. Second, improve the management level of enterprises and enhance their competitiveness. Third, improve the corporate image and increase the trust and affinity of the society to the enterprise. Fourth, the advertising effect is extraordinary. Although we can't promise that passing the certification will definitely bring economic benefits, the first batch of enterprises that have passed the certification will all benefit from it. Take Qingdao Haier Refrigerator Factory as an example. They spent tens of millions on certification. Now the first pass yield of products has increased from 98.2% before certification to 98.5%, and the rejection rate has dropped from 7% to 5.4%. What is even more rare is that Haier products have gained a reputation in the international market. Zhang Ruimin, president of Haier, believes that this is an intangible asset that no amount of money can buy. Shenzhen enterprises pay attention to ISO14111. Although Shenzhen did not become the first enterprise in China to obtain ISO14111 certification, it established the first local certification institution in China-Shenzhen Environmental Management System Certification Center. According to Ying Chunbao, director of the center, due to the obvious export-oriented characteristics of Shenzhen's economy, enterprises showed great enthusiasm for ISO14111. Before the opening of the center, some enterprises entrusted overseas institutions to consult. As soon as the center opened, it accepted the entrustment of Ricoh (Shenzhen) Industrial Development Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Lubao Automobile Technology Development Co., Ltd., and at present, it is undergoing intense consultation and certification. According to Ying Chunbao's prediction, the center will complete at least ten this year.
