Heather was once a municipal district of Shanghai. It covers all the old cities in Shanghai and the present Lujiabang area, Pudong Shangnan area and so on. It is the oldest urban area in Shanghai.

In the early Ming Dynasty, heather set up a county, which belonged to Songjiang Prefecture in Nanzhili. Later, in order to resist the enemy, the city wall was built. (At present, Dajingge Ancient Temple still retains a section of Ming City Wall ruins, while Zhonghua Road and Minguo Road (renamed Renmin Road after 1949) around the old city are moat ruins. ) 1842 After the opening of the port according to treaty of nanking, Britain established a concession from the north bank of Xinkaihe to the south bank of Suzhou River, which is the old city of Shanghai. Shanghainese call the British Concession the North City (now Huangpu District and Jing 'an District), and the Chinese community in the old city is called the South City, hence the name.

In 2000, the Shanghai Municipal Government announced the cancellation of Shinan District and merged the west bank of Huangpu River in Shinan District into Huangpu District, while the east bank of Huangpu River in Shinan District was merged into Pudong New Area as early as June 65438+March 0993. Since then, Heather District has disappeared from the administrative divisions of Shanghai.
