replaces paper tax return forms and allows you to apply for your GST refund electronically. This makes it easier for you to get your refund by eliminating the need to fill out different refund forms from different stores.
There are two ways you can use the Visitor e-Refund system to get your refund.
1. Choose a credit/debit card. Present the same card to the retailer every time you make a purchase. This card will keep a link to all your purchases. When you go to the airport to get your tax refund, simply swipe your chosen card at the e-Refund kiosk. All your purchases will be retrieved and you can follow the instructions at the counter to get your refund.
Please note that when you select a credit/debit card as your voucher, you are not obliged to pay with this card. You can still pay cash or pay with another credit/debit card.
2. If you don't have a credit/debit card, or don't want to use a bank card as proof of purchase, make sure you ask the retailer for an e-tax refund receipt at the time of purchase. At the airport, simply go to the e-Refund kiosk and scan all the e-Refund receipts one by one. Then follow the instructions at the counter to receive your refund.
Three simple steps to receive your refund:
1. At the airport
If you plan to check in your purchases, you must apply for a GST refund before checking in your luggage. Refunds cannot be made on purchases that have already been checked in,
as Singapore Customs may ask to inspect your purchases once before processing the refund application. You can apply for a tax refund at the e-Tax Refund Self-Service counter at the airport's Departure Hall (before check-in).
If you intend to carry your purchases with you, please bring them to the e-Tax Refund Self-Service Counter at the Departure Transit Hall (after check-in) to apply for a refund.
2. At the e-Refund Self-Service Counter
On arrival at the counter, swipe your passport and the credit/debit card selected as the e-Refund voucher. This will bring up all the details of your purchases. Alternatively, you can scan the e-refund vouchers one by one to show the details of each purchase.
Once you have retrieved your spending details, follow the instructions on the e-Refund helpdesk to apply for your GST refund. At this stage, you will need to choose whether to receive your refund via credit card or cash (for travelers departing from Changi Airport). If you are departing from Serida Airport, you can choose to receive your refund via bank check or credit card. A notification slip will be issued by the service desk once everything is done. Please check the slip to see if you need to go to the Customs checkpoint for further verification of your purchases by the Customs staff.
You are reminded to arrive at the airport early to ensure that you have enough time for your GST refund and merchandise verification.
3. Receive your refund
From Changi Airport, you can choose to receive your refund by credit card or cash. For departures from Serida Airport, you can choose to receive your tax refund via bank check or credit card.
For cash refunds, please bring the notification slip to the Central Refund Office located at the Departure Transit Hall (after check-in) to receive your cash.
When you choose to receive your tax refund by credit card, you can board your flight after submitting your tax refund application at the e-Tax Refund Service Counter. The refund amount will be credited to your designated credit card within 10 days.
When you choose to receive your refund by bank check, you must fill in your name and mailing address etc. on the notification form and put the notification form into the check refund box. The bank check will be mailed to you after 14 days.
Please note that the actual amount refunded to you will be less than the amount of your refund due to processing fees. Details of the processing fee will be shown on the e-refund invoice issued to you.
Note: Goods must be removed from the country within two months from the date of purchase or within 12 hours of approval of the GST refund application
. Consumption tax refunds must be collected from the accredited centralized refund counter operator within two months from the date of approval of the refund application.
