According to the history column of Sohu, Li Chengyu was born in 1885. She lives at the foot of Wudang Mountain in Hubei Province. Because her parents failed in business and her family came down, she was given to a rich local family as a child bride at the age of 6, and married her husband's family at the age of 17. After marriage, her life became more painful. Not only is her husband bad to her, but other people in her husband's family always bully her. Li Chengyu had to put up with it for the sake of her family, but at the age of 20, she unfortunately suffered from consumption, which was incurable at that time, and suddenly fell into despair.
Li Chengyu and his family sought medical treatment everywhere, but they failed to cure the disease. In desperation, she chose to go to Wudang Mountain for help and was cured by a Taoist named Zhang. In order to thank the Taoist priest for saving his life, and because she could no longer stand her husband's life, she decided to become a monk in Wudang Mountain and worship Zhang as a teacher. Li Chengyu lived in Wudang Mountain for many years. Even during the Cultural Revolution, the authorities ordered the Taoist priests in Wudang Mountain to be repatriated to secularization. Li Chengyu still insisted on staying on the mountain to keep her religion. She lives a simple life every day, with three simple meals of tea and rice, namely corn paste with tofu and wild vegetables. Most of the time, she concentrates on practicing. She is getting younger as she lives. The original gray hair gradually turned black, and the bare teeth grew new. Unconsciously, she is over 100 years old. Even if the outside world is constantly changing, even if she accidentally slips and is unfortunately paralyzed by going out, she still concentrates on practicing and is unmoved.
In 2003, on his deathbed, Li Chengyu called his apprentice to the front. First, he explained the funeral clearly and asked everything to be simple. Then he looked at the sky outside the window, left the last three words "I will leave" and passed away quietly at the age of 1 18. After her death, the disciples found a wooden comb while sorting out her belongings. Because combing her hair with a wooden comb can clear the vein of her head and prevent her brain from aging, the disciples realized that Li Chengyu's decades of using wooden combs, plus years of health care and rest, was the reason for her longevity.
