the origin of Zhuhai
the place name of Zhuhai was put into use in 1953 when Zhuhai was founded as a county. There are many legends about the origin of Zhuhai place names, but the most enduring one should be the interpretation given from the geographical point of view.
The sea area between Tangjia and Lingdingyang in Zhuhai was called "Zhuhai" by local residents in ancient times. In the Tang Family Tree, someone named it "Tang Zhuhai" (Yongle period of Ming Dynasty).
In the School Song of Tangjiasanfeng Primary School in the early years of the Republic of China, the lyrics include the sentence "Zhuhai in front and Goose Peak in the back". It can be seen that this sea area has long been called "Zhuhai". Therefore, when Zhuhai was established as a county, it was called "Zhuhai" because this area was located at the sea of the Pearl River. Most of Zhuhai originally belonged to Zhongshan county. In 1953, a part of coastal areas and islands were set aside from Zhongshan, Dongguan and Baoan counties to set up Zhuhai county, and the county seat was now Tangjia Town. In 1958, Zhuhai County was merged into Zhongshan County. In 1961, the organizational system of Zhuhai County was restored, and the county seat was changed to Xiangzhou. In March, 1979, it was approved by the State Council to withdraw from the county and build a city, which is a provincial city. In 1983, Doumen County was included in Zhuhai City.
Zhuhai Special Economic Zone was established in August, 1981. At that time, the area of the Special Zone was only 6.81 square kilometers. After two adjustments, the area of the Special Zone was expanded to 1.21 square kilometers. At present, Zhuhai has jurisdiction over Xiangzhou District, Jinwan District and Doumen District (formerly Doumen County).

Yesterday Zhuhai
Most areas of Zhuhai were under the jurisdiction of Zhongshan County (formerly known as Xiangshan County) from the Southern Song Dynasty to the Republic of China. Archaeology, the discovery of polished stones and painted pottery shows that primitive tribal people lived here as early as the Neolithic Age four or five thousand years ago. Around the Phoenix Mountains and some islands in the Pearl River Estuary, the dunes, hills and terraces have left the remains of our ancestors.
Zhuhai is located on the seashore and has been a military fortress in history. At the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, it was the place where the Yuan Army fought with Song Jun. Tomorrow, in the first year of Kai (1621), the government will build a new village in Qianshan for the purpose of "controlling Macao and foreigners" (referring to Portugal occupying Macao), which is called "Qianshanzhai", and set up a general's office, with nearly 2,111 sailors and marines stationed. In the middle of the 7th century, Wanshan and Dong 'ao sea areas were frequently invaded by foreign enemies, so a city was established in Dong 'ao Island to send troops for garrison. In the early years of the Qing dynasty, the Qing government imposed a maritime ban and strictly guarded Macao. A battery was set up on Qi 'ao Island in the light year of the Qing Dynasty. In the 19th year of the Qing Dynasty (1839), Lin Zexu was appointed as an imperial envoy, and he went to the coastal area of Guangdong to ban opium, led troops to inspect the former shanzhai in Xiangshan County, and strengthened the protection in this area. In the 21st year of Guangxu, Qing Dynasty (1841), he built a battery in Lion Mountain in Beiling and sent troops to station it. In the 13th year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (1887), Gongbei Pass was formally established, and Gongbei Port was opened according to the unequal treaty between China and Portugal in Beijing. The number of troops stationed in the former shanzhai decreased, and the city gradually became a trade market and residential buildings.
Zhuhai's neighbor-Macau
Macau was originally under the jurisdiction of Xiangshan County. As early as the 36th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1557) to the middle of the 8th century, Portugal successively built forts in Macau. When the Opium War broke out, Portugal provided batteries for Britain, attacked us and closed the gates, invaded Gongbei, and the Qing army lost its military control over Macao for the first time. In the 29th year of Qing Daoguang (1849), in order to expand the land, open the way, trample the farmland in Qianshan Mountain and destroy the tomb, which was killed by Shen Yami, a farmer in Longtian Village. Portugal took the opportunity to start a war and occupied Wangxia Village in Macao in the 29th year of Qing Daoguang (1849). In the first year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty (1851), it occupied Taipa Island, and in the third year of Tongbo in Qing Dynasty (1864), it occupied the roundabout. In the sixth year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1867), the villages of Shalitou and Shagang were occupied; In the fifth year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1879), Longtian Village was occupied; In the 11th year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (1887), four so-called "Draft Conventions of China-Portugal Conference" were signed in Kyoto, Portugal on March 26th. In February of the same year, the so-called "Sino-Portuguese Treaty" was signed in Beijing. In the 13th year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1874), Portugal built a gate in Gongbei, which was a historical witness of Portugal's occupation of China territory.
