Specific Skills Examination

Specific Skills is a new residency qualification that Japan will implement in April 2019, with the aim of: allowing foreigners to be employed in the 14 industries that are experiencing a shortage of manpower in order to address the growing problem of understaffing.

Jobs in the 14 industries below, including simple labor, have been difficult for foreigners to hire until now. At the same time, the impact of the aging population in these industries has been so severe that the country has been unable to secure enough human resources. Therefore, it was decided to establish a status of residence that allows foreigners to be employed.
