Distribution map of American agricultural belt

The distribution of the agricultural belt in the United States is as shown in the figure:

The agricultural belt in the United States is mainly divided into five regions:

1. The pasture and dairy belt in Northeast China and New England. Refers to the 12 states east of West Virginia. The natural conditions are wet and cold climate, barren soil and short frost-free period, which is not suitable for farming, but suitable for the growth of pasture and silage corn, so it is suitable for the development of animal husbandry. In addition, this area is also the main production area of potatoes, apples and grapes.

2. The corn belt in the north-central part refers to eight states near the Great Lakes. The natural conditions are low terrain, deep soil layer, high temperature and high humidity in spring and summer, which is very conducive to the growth and development of corn. Therefore, this area has become the largest corn production area in the world. At the same time, it is also the largest soybean producing area in the United States, with soybean farms accounting for 54% of the national total; In addition, the production of wheat here also occupies an important position in the United States.

3. Great Plains wheat belt: located in the central and northern parts of the United States, spanning nine states. This is high plains, which is below 511 meters above sea level. The terrain is flat, the soil is fertile, the rain and heat are in the same period, the water is abundant, and the winter is long and cold, which is suitable for wheat growth. The wheat planting area in this area usually accounts for 71% of the whole country.

4. Cotton belt in the south: mainly refers to five states in the Mississippi Delta along the Atlantic coast. The natural conditions in this area are low terrain, fertile soil, low latitude, sufficient heat, abundant precipitation in spring and summer and dryness in autumn, which is suitable for cotton ripening. About 1/3 of the country's cotton farms are concentrated here, with a planting area of more than 1.6 million hectares, accounting for 36% of the country's output. Among them, Arkansas is also the largest rice producing area in the United States, accounting for 43% of the country's total output.

5. Comprehensive agricultural areas along the Pacific coast: mainly including Washington, Oregon and California. Affected by the Pacific warm current, the agricultural belt has a mild and humid climate and is suitable for the growth of many crops. Most vegetables, fruits and dried fruits in the United States come from here. In addition, rice and wheat are also abundant here.
