Grandma loved us so much that she counted on her fingers every day to see if the double holiday had arrived. When it was close to the end of the day she would make all kinds of delicious snacks and wait for us to eat them. Among the many snacks, the one that reminds me the most is the dumplings made by my grandmother.
Grandma's dumplings have a lot of ingredients, including shrimp, pork, peanuts, mushrooms,...... the dumplings are smaller than the kind sold in the market, but they are much more delicious. A bite down, the flavor overflows, and sweet, the aroma floats ten miles.
When I was very young, I had heard the story that the dumplings were popularized by Qu Yuan's casting into the river. Legend has it that on the fifth day of the fifth month, Qu Yuan was forced to throw himself into the Miluo River, the local people were afraid that he was eaten by the fish and shrimp in the river, they wrapped up a lot of zongzi thrown into the river to feed the fish and shrimp, and at the same time, with the dragon boat and gongs and drums to chase away the fish and shrimp in the river, to try to find a way to save Qu Yuan. Whenever I eat the dumplings, I naturally think of this story, and I am touched by the villagers' simplicity and kindness while fighting for Qu Yuan.
In the past, I could only eat zongzi during the Dragon Boat Festival, but now I can eat them almost anytime I want. Every day the streets and alleys are filled with the sound of vendors yelling and selling dumplings, and there is a world of difference between the vendors' dumplings and Grandma's dumplings. Their dumplings, in addition to the necessary glutinous rice, there are only a few meters of peanut kernels and a small piece of fat pork, not much flavor, Grandma wrapped dumplings not only taste delicious, but also contains her infinite love for us.
Whenever I chewed on my grandmother's rice dumplings, I always recalled the strong affection.
