located in the baozhufeng mountain depression in Mentougou district, Beijing, more than 41 kilometers away from Beijing, it was built in the Jin dynasty, and it is the oldest temple in Beijing. There is a folk saying that "Tanzhe Temple comes first, then Yanjing City is built". Because there is Longtan behind the temple and Zheshu in front, it is named Tanzhe Temple.
The temple is built on the mountain, with magnificent halls and three architectural patterns: East, West and Middle. The buildings in the middle road are resplendent and magnificent, including archway, mountain gate, Heavenly King Hall, Ursa Major Hall and Piluge Pavilion. The green glazed kisses at the two ends of the Great Ridge of Ursa Major are 2.9 meters high, which is the best and largest pair of kisses in Beijing's ancient buildings. Piluge is the tallest building in the middle road. In front of the pavilion are rare flowers and trees such as Chimonanthus praecox, Tanchun, Er Qiao and Magnolia. A purple magnolia in front of the pavilion has a tree age of more than 211 years, and it is the largest magnolia in North China. Early spring every year is a good opportunity to enjoy the magnolia. Tanzhe Temple is located at the foot of Tanzhe Mountain in the southeast of Mentougou District in the western suburbs of Beijing, 41 kilometers away from Fuchengmen. Tanzhe Temple faces south, with its back against the Treasure Mount Everest, surrounded by nine tall peaks in horseshoe shape. These nine peaks are Huilong Peak, Tiger Distance Peak, Pengri Peak, Zicui Peak, Jiyunfeng Peak, Hailuo Peak, Jiayue Peak, Elephant Wang Feng and Lotus Peak from the east. Nine peaks are like nine dragons guarding the Treasure Mount Everest in the middle, and a grand ancient temple of Tanzhe Temple has been built. The tall mountain peaks blocked the cold current from the northwest, which formed a warm and humid microclimate where Tanzhe Temple was located. Therefore, there are lush vegetation, a large number of ancient trees and famous flowers, and the natural scenery is extremely beautiful.
Tanzhe Temple has a huge scale, covering an area of 2.5 hectares inside and 1.2 hectares outside the temple, with the surrounding forests and mountain fields under the jurisdiction of Tanzhe Temple, with a total area of more than 1.21 hectares. The halls are built with the height of the mountain, and they are patchwork. The Forbidden City in Beijing has 9999 rooms and a half, and Tanzhe Temple has 999 rooms and a half in the heyday of Qing Dynasty, which is the epitome of the Forbidden City. It is said that when the Forbidden City was built in the early Ming Dynasty, it was built after Tanzhe Temple. In the early days of liberation, some dilapidated temples were demolished, and some new houses were built. At present, there are 943 houses in Tanzhe Temple, including 638 ancient halls. The building maintains the style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and it is the largest ancient temple complex in the suburbs of Beijing. The whole building complex fully embodies the aesthetic principles of ancient buildings in China, with a central axis running through it, and the left and right sides are basically symmetrical, which makes the whole building complex look regular, neat, clear in primary and secondary, and clear in hierarchy. Its architectural forms are temples, halls, pavilions, halls, pavilions, pavilions, buildings, altars and so on. Outside the temple, there are many buildings and scenic spots, such as the Upper and Lower Pagoda, the East and West Guanyin Cave, the Anle Yanshou Hall, the Longtan and so on, just like the stars holding the moon, scattered among them, forming a tourist attraction with many scenic spots, various forms and different tastes in Fiona Fang. Tanzhe Temple is not only rich in human landscape, but also very beautiful in natural landscape. It has its own scenery in spring, summer, autumn and winter, with different tastes in the morning, afternoon and evening. As early as the Qing Dynasty, the "Ten Scenes of Tanzhe" was already famous in Beijing.
Tanzhe Temple was founded in the Western Jin Dynasty, with a history of nearly 1,711 years. It is the earliest Buddhist temple built in Beijing. There is a proverb in Beijing that "Tanzhe comes first, then Youzhou comes". Tanzhe Temple was named Kafukuji in the Jin Dynasty, renamed Longquan Temple in the Tang Dynasty, and was named Da manjuji in the Jin Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, the old names of Longquan Temple and Kafukuji were restored successively. In the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Kangxi gave it the name Xiuyun Temple. However, because there is Longtan behind the temple and Zheshu trees on the mountain, people have always called it "Tanzhe Temple".
For thousands of years, Tanzhe Temple has been favored by rulers of past dynasties for its long history, magnificent architecture, beautiful scenery and magical legends. After Emperor Xizong of the Jin Dynasty, emperors from all dynasties came to Tanzhe Temple to pay homage to the Buddha, travel around the mountains and water, and set aside funds to renovate and expand the temple. Princes, concubines and princesses have also donated their own funds. In Garbsch, there are thousands of folk men and women who have a good relationship with Tanzhe Temple. They have been giving alms and fasting monks to Tanzhe Temple for many years, and spontaneously organized dozens of folk incense parties to raise funds to buy land and property and donate them to the temple, which has become one of the important economic sources for Tanzhe Temple to maintain huge daily expenses. In the Qing Dynasty, Tanzhe Temple reached its peak in terms of temple scale, land property, religious status and political influence, especially when Emperor Kangxi designated Tanzhe Temple as a "building", making it the largest royal temple in Beijing. Tanzhe Temple occupies an important position in Buddhism. From the Jin Dynasty, for a long time, it was the leader of Linji Sect in Mahayana Buddhism, and famous monks came forth in large numbers. In order to study Buddhism, promote Buddhism, expand and repair Tanzhe Temple, and flourish the incense of the temple, the eminent monks made painstaking contributions. Tanzhe Temple enjoys the reputation of "the first temple in Kyoto" because of its powerful political power, huge temple property and lofty status in Buddhism, and its huge scale.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the people's government opened Tanzhe Temple as a forest heritage park and became a tourist attraction. On October 28th, 1957, Tanzhe Temple was listed as the first batch of key cultural relics protection units in Beijing. In 1978, the Beijing municipal government funded a two-year large-scale renovation of Tanzhe Temple, which was reopened to the public on August 1th, 1981, and was approved by relevant departments in early 1997.
On June 25th, 2111, with the approval of the People's Republic of China and the State Council, Tanzhe Temple was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit.
Today, the temple of Tanzhe Temple is majestic, with quiet courtyards, halls, altars and rooms with their own characteristics. The buildings, pavilions, pavilions and houses are extraordinary in scenery, with ancient and famous trees and flowers and bamboos all over the temple, rockeries and verdant mountains, meandering water flowing in harmony, red walls, blue tiles and cornices set off among pines and cypresses, and the temple is neat and tidy. Mr. Zhao Puchu, president of the Chinese Buddhist Association, wrote a joint praise: "It takes a long time to shoot the air, and the land will be secluded first." Today's Tanzhe Temple not only attracts guests from all over the world and tourists from all directions with its numerous historical sites and beautiful scenery, but also has modern tourist service facilities, which provide one-stop services of transportation, accommodation, catering, sightseeing, entertainment and shopping. It is a famous tourist attraction in the suburbs of Beijing.
(1) Huayan built a temple and the old dragon let the house
It is said that when Wu Zetian was in the Tang Dynasty, there was a secluded state in Beijing. There is a prefect named Zhang Renyuan in Youzhou City. One day in the middle of the night, Zhang Renyuan was lying in bed, unable to sleep, just listening to the movement outside the window. Suddenly, he heard the voice of a monk chanting loudly coming from outside the city. It was melodious and sonorous. The next day, Zhang Renyuan asked his men: Have you ever heard a monk chanting aloud at night? The men shook their heads and said they didn't hear. Zhang Renyuan doubts in the heart, puzzled. At midnight the next day, he sat quietly in bed and suddenly heard the loud chanting again, which was even more sonorous and pleasing to the ear. On the third morning, Zhang Renyuan quickly sent someone to the north of the city. Sure enough, in the small ruined temple outside the city gate, the men saw an elderly monk sitting on the worship mat, with his eyes closed slightly and chanting softly there. The people outside the city said that the monk named Master Hua Yan had been sitting there for several days. The officers quickly invited the old monk to the prison house. Zhang Renyuan met the old monk and asked him what he wanted. The old monk said, "I would like to set up a temple under Luohouling in the west of Beijing to worship the Buddha." Zhang Renyuan knew that Hua Yan and the Taoist priest were extraordinary, so he agreed to his request and gave him a land occupation document.
The next day, Buddhist monk Hua Yan came to the foot of Mount Bao and settled down in a shabby shop called Kafukuji. In front of Jiafu Temple, there is a mighty pool called Qinglong Lake. The people also say that this is a sea eye, and the bottom of the pool can directly reach the East China Sea. There is another old dragon living in this Qinglong Lake. Monk Hua Yan goes to the side of Qinglong Lake every day to preach, and the audience is really crowded. Every day, the old dragon in Qinglongtan swims to the shore of the pool and listens to monk Hua Yan's lecture. After a long time, Lao Long was influenced by Buddha's righteousness and wanted to meet Hua Yan, calling himself a disciple. Lao Long went to consult the mountain god and asked him how he could "meet people and dragons". The mountain god said, "You should try your best to make the old monk angry and change his face, so that we can talk to him face to face." The next day, when Monk Huayan was sitting at the edge of Qinglong Lake, the old dragon stirred up several waves in the pool, and the waves came ashore and washed down the rice bowl in front of Monk Huayan's knee. The people who listened to the scriptures were scared away at the sight of this situation, and the monk Hua Yan followed with a scowl. Seeing that the time had come, the old dragon reached the shore by the potential of the water, and kowtowed in front of the monk Hua Yan. Seeing that Lao Long was so sincere and knew that it was a "conscience discovery", Hua Yan made it clear that he planned to build a big temple on the base of Qinglong Lake, and asked Lao Long to "give up his house" and move to another place. The old dragon is nodding.
that night, the wind was blowing hard, the rain was pouring down, and the turbid waves in Qinglong Lake were sky-high. Lei Guang's lightning flashed, but he saw that the old dragon climbed into the sky with its head held high and its claws raised. By dawn, the wind had stopped and the rain had stopped. Yesterday, it was the Qinglong Lake with a thousand feet of black water, and now it has become a flat land. Under the sunlight, a pair of kisses are slowly arched on the flat ground-this kiss is said to be a dragon in ancient times! At present, monk Hua Yan is building a large-scale project, building the Hall of the Great Hero on this flat land, and installing two kisses at both ends of the temple ridge. The well-known Tanzhe Temple was built in this way.
(2) "Daqing" and "Erqing" have magical powers
In the Ming Dynasty, there was a superb Taoist abbot in Tanzhe Temple. One day, Daguan wants to go to Mount Emei in Sichuan. However, fearing that the road would be too long, I burned incense and bowed down to the Dragon King Hall in the northwest corner of Tanzhe Temple, praying for the dragon's blessing. Sure enough, at midnight that day, two "dragon sons" came down from the roof of Daxiong Hall, with waists as thick as tea bowls and livid all over, and looked like black snakes. The monks in the temple immediately bowed down and called them "Master Daqing" and "Master Erqing". On the second day, Daqingerqing escorted the Taoist priest to the road, opened the way on every mountain, bridged the bridge in case of water, and traveled back and forth for three years, blessing the Taoist priest to be safe all the way.
When Daguan returned to Tanzhe Temple, he ordered craftsmen to build two mahogany square cages and put Daqingerqing in them. Two "dragon sons" are also enshrined in a shrine on the west side of the Ursa Major Hall for people to burn incense and ask for a visit.
Speaking of the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Qianlong visited Tanzhe Temple. On this day, Qianlong sat on the throne in the north of Liubei Pavilion, and monks in the temple came to the emperor one after another to ask for a seal. Hearing this, Erqing, the "Dragon Son", also climbed out of the back door of the Hall of Great Heroes and came to the throne of Emperor Qianlong in twists and turns. Erqing was fascinated by the Dharma and showed his true nature. His whole body became as big as a bucket, and he shouted "Long live" and asked Emperor Qianlong for a reward. When Qianlong saw this, he was shocked and shouted, pointing to the big worm in front of him, "This stupid worm is for the public!" " Who can't listen to a golden mouth and jade words? Now Erqing is getting smaller again, and he climbs down the sink under the Liubei Pavilion with his head down-
At noon the next day, all the monks and nearby people get the porridge from the big copper pot and put it to his mouth, which feels sticky and fragrant. Everyone, you have a bowl and I have a bowl. The more you eat, the more you like it. After eating, the porridge pot bottomed out, and everyone looked at the bottom of the pot and saw a pile of snake bones like a circle in the pot. -It turned out that Erqing obeyed Qianlong's "imperial edict" and climbed into a copper pot and became a "thing for the public".
(3) The abbot cast spells, and Ge Zhen became a monk
Emperor Qianlong stayed in Tanzhe Temple and discussed the Buddha's righteousness with the abbot in the temple, which was very speculative. Remembering that he had been in the temple for two days, Qianlong saw monks coming and going, old and young, which was estimated to be quite large. He asked the old abbot, "How many monks are there up and down in your temple?" The old abbot said, "There are countless monks in Tanzhe Temple." Gan long thought: you can't count, can't I count as an emperor? So he said to the old abbot, "I'll give each monk a copper coin as a reward, and when I get the reward, I'll count the number of people. Isn't that enough?" The old abbot smiled and nodded in agreement.
Guard Ma Ai moved the Qianlong throne to the side of the mountain gate, let the emperor sit on it, watched his ministers give money to the monks in Tanzhe Temple, and counted the number of people by the way. Monks, old and young, lined up in the temple gate, each reaching for a copper coin, and then walked out of the mountain gate. Hair, hair, hair from Daqing early to noon, and from noon to sunset, dozens of pockets of copper coins brought by Qianlong are glowing, and there are still monks who have never seen each other in the temple gate. After handing out the last copper coin, Qianlong sighed and said to the abbot, "I believe what the monk said."
Watching the old abbot look at Ganlong's embarrassed face, he stepped forward, took Ganlong's hand and said, "Your Majesty, please follow me to the back mountain." Qianlong now followed the old abbot out of the mountain gate and came to the back hillside on the stone paved path. "Your Majesty, please look around." The old abbot said proudly. When Qianlong looked at the hillside, he couldn't help but be surprised: but he saw golden lights everywhere, and a cluster of clans and jujube trees were covered with copper coins, and the mountain wind was tinkling. Looking down carefully, Qianlong saw that the copper coins he had sent this day were all held on the tip of the needle of Ge.
It's strange to say that the old abbot turned the needle tip of Ge Mountain into a monk, and let them get the reward from Gan Long and return to the hillside.
(4) "Living Buddha" preaches, the tiger is good
During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, a prince rode to Tanzhe Temple to visit the mountains and water. He went to the Wumu Bridge not far in front of the temple and saw a silly monk with tattered robes stop his horse's head and shouted at him. The Sixth Prince was furious at the moment and ordered his guards to push the monk to the mountain stream under the bridge and fall to his death. Unexpectedly, after half an hour, the crazy and stupid monk climbed onto the bridge from the deep mountain stream and shouted at him. The Sixth Prince was furious at the moment and ordered his guards to push the monk to the mountain stream under the bridge and fall to his death. Who knows that after half an hour, the crazy silly monk climbed from the deep stream to the bridge again, and smiled at the Sixth Prince. The Sixth Prince was greatly surprised and said, "Look at you like this, you look like a living Buddha." "Amitabha!" The mad monk bowed his head and thanked him, and walked to the east hillside.
Before long, this crazy monk who called himself "living Buddha" lived in a cave to the east of Xiata Courtyard. This cave is gloomy. There are many scorpions in it, and the people nearby call it Scorpion Cave. After the living Buddha lived in, he reached out and grabbed the scorpion and ate it, eating all the scorpions full of holes. He also raised a chicken and a dog, and let these two living creatures eat and live with him in the cave.
People from far and near heard that there was a "living Buddha" in Tanzhe Temple, and wanted to open their eyes, so they came to the east hillside in groups and crowded into the scorpion cave to watch. Everyone sees that he is very similar to the ancient legend of Ji.
