The Wenchuan Earthquake has made public welfare even more popular, and since 2008, public welfare actions have made remarkable achievements, the most famous of which is the Donate a Dollar, Give Love and Send Nutrition to the Poor Mountainous Areas campaign launched by China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) in cooperation with Yum Brands, a division of the Yum! Since its launch in 2008, the campaign has utilized KFC and Pizza Hut's nationwide restaurant network to launch an annual fundraising campaign to consumers for about two weeks. Over the past three years, the program has raised a total of 25 million yuan, with more than 15 million ordinary members of the public participating in the donations. The program is one of the most popular public welfare programs in China, and has successfully created a platform for sustained public donations, practicing the concept of "public welfare for all".
Other influential public welfare programs include "Love Parcel", Evergrande Charity Walk for Ten Thousand People, and Heart Fund.
The national public welfare can go farther
How powerful is the national public welfare? Wang Zhenyao, director of the Ministry of Civil Affairs disaster relief department, made a calculation: "At present, China's urban population is 500 million people, if each person donates 100 yuan a year, this alone will be able to raise 50 billion yuan a year national charity." In fact, in 2007, China's public and corporate charitable donations (money and goods) totaled 22.316 billion yuan, that is to say, the public welfare of China's philanthropy is a treasure yet to be developed.
