Trade unions represent and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of workers, while safeguarding the overall interests of the people throughout the country.
The general legal nature of trade unions is that of companies. All-China Federation of Trade Unions, local Federation of Trade Unions and industrial trade unions have the legal personality of social organizations. Grass-roots trade union organizations that meet the legal person requirements stipulated in the General Principles of the Civil Law, the People's Republic of China (PRC) Trade Union Law and the Measures for the Registration of the Legal Person Qualification of Grass-roots Trade Unions shall obtain the legal person qualification of social organizations according to law. Trade union organizations with legal personality independently enjoy civil rights and assume civil obligations according to law.
