As the only international airport in Guanzhong urban agglomeration, Xianyang International Airport is an important gateway airport in China, the largest air traffic hub in northwest China, the ninth largest airport in Chinese mainland (passenger throughput of 20 14) and the fifth largest airport (area) in China. It was rated as a four-star airport in the world by Skytrax.

The airports with the highest comprehensive scores in the Mainland are only Beijing Capital, Shanghai Hongqiao, Haikou Meilan, Sanya Phoenix and Yichang Three Gorges.
