Extended information:

In Xiangyang, it was the 23rd Lunar New Year (some people lived in the 24th Lunar New Year).

On the thirtieth day of the twelfth lunar month, Spring Festival couplets are posted to honor the gods, greet ancestors, set off firecrackers, and have a family reunion dinner at the same table, which is called "having a reunion dinner" to celebrate the auspicious peace in the past year. At night, people stay up until late at night, and some stay up all night. On the first day of the first month to the third day of the first month, 3 days is the New Year's Day.

In the early morning of the first day of the lunar new year, ancestors are worshipped with offerings such as incense, sacrifices and cakes, and then the elders are given New Year greetings, and the elders are rewarded with "lucky money". Eating jiaozi for the first meal is called "Deyuanbao", which is used as a symbol of the prosperity of the group. Then, neighbors and relatives pay New Year greetings to each other. Generally, they are treated by yancha, while close relatives and friends treat the wine and rice.

It is essential to visit relatives and bring gifts to visit parents-in-law, aunts or uncles, especially to pay New Year greetings to parents-in-law.

The fifth day is called "Breaking Five", which is more grand than the festival. People meet and say "Congratulations on getting rich".

During the Spring Festival, there are many taboos. You can't do needlework, sweep the floor, throw water on the ground, eat fish or say unlucky things. If you have to say it, you should use taboo methods, such as saying "dead" as "old".
