There are obvious differences in modeling, glaze color and water decoration of porcelain bowls in different periods. Bowls before the Tang Dynasty were mostly straight and flat-bottomed, with no decorative patterns.
Types of bowls
There are many types of bowls in the Tang Dynasty, such as straight mouth, straight mouth and sunflower mouth with convex lips. Most of them are flat-bottomed jade bottom and ring bottom, glazed near the bottom, glazed fine products and some simple decorative flowers. Bowls in the Song Dynasty were mostly hat-shaped bowls with big mouths and small feet, and the diameter of the feet was almost one-third of the mouth edge.
Glaze color is mostly monochrome, such as shadow, black, sauce white and so on. And drawing characters of young animals and plants on the inner and outer walls or the inner bottom of the bowl by scribing and printing. Compared with the Song Dynasty, the bowl shape of Yuan Dynasty is characterized by high and heavy, the circle foot inclines inward, the cross section is eight-shaped, and there are many engraved decorations.
