In China, each generation in a family has its own fixed and different names. The following common names can only be obtained through the relationship between some characters in the parent:
"I" is me.
From me (that is, the elders), there can be:
"My father" is my father;
"My grandfather" is my father's father, that is, my grandfather;
"My great grandfather" is my grandfather's father, that is, my great grandfather;
From me (that is, the younger generation), there can be:
"My son" is my next generation (male);
My grandson is my son's son;
My great-grandson is my grandson's son, and so on.
In Chinese, the use of many words is closely related to people's daily habits. In many habits, children's language has a great influence, which leads to various special expressions when talking to children. Reduplication is one of them, which is used to express affection and intimacy. For example, "Dad", "Mom", "Grandpa" and "Grandma" are called "Dad", "Mom", "Grandpa" and "Grandma" among children. On the contrary, adults, especially the elderly, also use the same overlapping words to address their children. For example, they call their grandson named Li Jia "Jia Jia" and their granddaughter named Liu Ping "Pingping".
Adding a word "small" before this title is more love and precious to children. Therefore, when the old man tells others about his "little grandson", he always expresses it in a very intimate and loving tone. This "little grandson" actually refers to the grandson of the old man.
