The so-called "comfort" refers to a beautiful life, a carefree life, and a free life. Although such a life is enviable, I think that in real life, we should reject comfort, let alone just pursue comfort, otherwise the consequences will be dire.
First of all, the biggest harm of being comfortable is that it makes people satisfied with the status quo, loses fighting spirit, and has no ambition to make progress. In this way, society will not develop and history will not progress. In the long course of history, comfort has left us with many painful lessons. During the late Qing Dynasty, not only was politics corrupt, but the rulers and many ordinary people were indulged in the enjoyment of comfortable life. On the surface, it seemed like a prosperous age of singing and dancing, but great hidden dangers had already been buried. Since the powerful Qing cavalry entered the country, they have not thought about progress, lacked the training of war, and almost lost their combat effectiveness. Almost all the children of the Eight Banners have become greedy for life and fear of death, causing the Qing Dynasty to face the aggression of foreign powers. There was no way to fight back. The majestic "Heavenly Kingdom" was completely defeated by a group of red-haired Japanese and Japanese devils. This undoubtedly sounded the alarm for us. Looking back at the Western powers at that time, hundreds of years of colonial wars continued to hone their armies, making them the world's military powers. It can be seen that tempering can strengthen oneself, but comfort can only lead to self-destruction.
Secondly, blindly pursuing comfort will also cause adverse consequences. What can a person do if his only thought is enjoyment? He will not contribute to others or the collective; they do not know how to give, only know how to take. Such people can only become a burden to society or even become its dregs. From ancient times to the present, there are many examples of serious consequences caused by the pursuit of comfort. After Qin Shihuang unified China, he overhauled Afang Palace and the mausoleum, causing public resentment. In the end, the huge Qin Empire II died, just like a flash in the pan. When the Empress Dowager Cixi was in power, she would build this garden today and that garden tomorrow, and all the money spent would be deducted from the navy's military expenditures. This was one of the important reasons why the Beiyang Navy suffered a complete defeat in the Sino-Japanese War of 1884-1894. There is a type of people in society today called the "gnawing old people". The so-called "gnawing old people" refers to some young people who do nothing but enjoy themselves and rely entirely on their parents to support themselves. If there are more and more people like this, how many people will have to work several times more to fill the bottomless pit of their comfortable lives? This phenomenon has become a hidden danger in society, making people worry about the future of the country.
So, coveting comfort is terrible. We must reject comfort and temper ourselves in life, so that we can create a more brilliant future.
