The plot mode of the game has five chapters, and each chapter tells an independent but interrelated story. These stories are mainly told through the dialogue between Polaroid and the characters, and serve as game tutorials to guide players to gradually understand the game mode of Prison Architect.
Players can view the plot mode and cutscenes through the main menu, or they can directly skip the plot mode to build a new prison.

Role setting
staff
Employees are prison employees, such as prison guards and workers. Players need employees to ensure the perfect operation of the prison, and some of them need to be unlocked through the "Administration" menu before they can be hired.
Players can hire employees through the "Employee" menu at the bottom of the screen and dismiss employees through the "Employee" menu in the "Report" at the lower right corner.
Employees are divided into three categories: staff, management and outsiders.
Staff perform automation tasks throughout the prison to ensure the normal operation of the prison. Players can control it manually or let them work by themselves.
Management is also called senior staff. They can't directly control the whole prison, and they won't automatically perform their tasks. It is mainly allocated in the "Administration" system window to unlock new projects, employee types, facilities and add-on functions. Management needs an independent office. Except for accountants, psychologists, lawyers, foremen and psychiatrists, only one person can be recruited for other management.
Outsiders can't be hired, and they can't get any salary. They show up when needed and leave the prison if the work is finished.
