The scientific name of this small flying insect is moth, which is also called moth, fly, moth and midge. They are micro-Diptera insects, which are distributed all over China. Common in bathtubs, sewer pipes, washbasins and other damp places, it is a common public nuisance insect in bathrooms. Adult moths have small flat heads, short mouthparts and hairy wings. Its egg period is 2 days, then it becomes a larva, becomes a pupa after 14 days, and begins to emerge after 3-4 days. Female moths will lay eggs about 4 days after emergence, with an average of about 200 eggs. After completing the task of breeding offspring, they will basically die within 3- 14 days.

Moths are not only common indoors, but also in humid outdoor environments. Sewage and waterfalls, some of which can even be seen in ant nests and mouse holes. Two kinds of moths are common in urban rooms: white spot moth and star spot moth. Septic tanks, sewage pools and other damp places containing corrupt organic matter are hotbeds for its growth, so it is easy to carry bacteria (mainly Escherichia coli). Although most adults stay on the wall, they may still pollute food and spread diseases.
