According to the inscription, Songhe Tower was originally a noodle shop and was added to the Noodle Industry Office. The Suzhou Noodle Industry Office was founded in the 22nd year of Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty. It is on the stone tablet built when the office was rebuilt in the 45th year of Qianlong's reign. The name of Songhe Tower is engraved on the shops funded by the listed funds. It is estimated that its founding date should be before 1780, and it has a history of at least more than a hundred years.

In the 18th year of Guangxu's reign, when the noodle business office was being renovated, on the inscription, Songhe Tower was listed first in the list of those who helped.

In the 28th year of Guangxu's reign, Suzhou Songhelou, which had always been selling noodles, expanded into a noodle restaurant, and funded the move of the Noodle Industry Office from its original location in Gongxiang to its new location in Dongmei Alley. With 25 special-level and 27 first-level chefs, Songhelou has always been the most famous authentic Suzhou restaurant in Suzhou. In the 1980s, Songhelou's famous dishes and delicacies had reached more than 300 kinds. Songhelou now has 15 chain stores located in Jiangsu, Beijing, Shanghai, Ningbo and other cities.
