Aromatic fruits, such as apples, oranges, mangoes, pineapples and watermelons, are used to worship Guanyin Bodhisattva. Bananas and peaches are not suitable for worshipping Buddha and Bodhisattva. Avalokitesvara is a symbol of compassion and wisdom in Buddhism and occupies an extremely important position in Mahayana Buddhism and folk beliefs. The spirit of great compassion led by Guanyin Bodhisattva is regarded as the foundation of Mahayana Buddhism. Avalokitesvara shows different bodies to different beings and speaks different dharmas. Among many Buddhists, Guanyin Bodhisattva is also the most widely known and most believed by the people.
Worship Guanyin Bodhisattva is one of the folk customs in Fujian, Zhejiang and other provinces. The legendary Guanyin Bodhisattva was born on February 19th, went home on September 19th, and attained enlightenment on June 19th. People and Buddhists will hold memorial and worship activities in these three days. Guanyin, also known as Guan Zi, Guan Shi and Guanyin, is commonly known as Guanyin Bodhisattva and Guanyin Master. Guanyin Bodhisattva is one of the three saints in the West and the left attendant of Amitabha, one of the four great Buddhists in China. People regard it as the avalokitesvara bodhisattva with great compassion.
