After the completion of the Grand View Garden, many gardens in it are very distinctive, but one thing is incomprehensible. Among so many houses and terraces, there is actually a place that is modeled after a farmhouse. This house seems to be out of place with the Grand View Garden. It happened that this house was also very popular at that time, and Jia Zheng liked it very much. In addition, he also let his eldest grandson Jia Lan and his mother Li Wan live here. This is famous.
The Grand View Garden refers to the royal garden architecture. Why is Daoxiang Village built like a farmhouse?
From Jia Zheng Baoyu's first visit, the face of Daoxiang Village has been very distinctive, and the book records:
I walked around the mountain and built a low wall with yellow mud. The wall was covered with rice straw. There are hundreds of apricot flowers, such as steaming clouds with fire. There are several thatched cottages in it. However, mulberry, elm, hibiscus, zhe and new branches of various trees have grown outside. As it twists and turns, two hedges are woven. Under the hillside outside the hedge, there is an earthen well with an orange pulley next to it. The following acres, cauliflower beautiful, endless.
After seeing it in Yuan Chun, it was named Daoxiang Village according to the poems written by Daiyu. The whole building is modeled after the peasant custom, which is a unique place in the Grand View Garden. After all, Jiafu is the official residence, which will introduce some western culture. The problem is that the farmhouse seems to be out of place with the surrounding mansions. Why set up such a place?
Jia Zheng and others appreciate this place very much. He said that when he saw it, he remembered the feeling of returning to his hometown to farm. The Grand View Garden contains all kinds of distinctive buildings in the society, so it is natural to set up farmhouse buildings. After all, the Jia family also has many connections with farmhouse music. They have some farms all over the country. Before he died, Qin Keqing also advised Xifeng to buy more land so that the children in the government could go back to farming.
Both the monarchs and nobles and the people under their rule attach great importance to agriculture, so the Jia family is not completely divorced from farm life. These places are very rare for a barren aristocratic child like Baoyu. From the architectural features of Daoxiang Village, we can also see some purposes of Jia's setting it up. Outside Daoxiang Village, a fence has been set up. When you come here, you will be the first to see the stone tablet at the intersection of the fence, which is the place where the inscription is specially left.
What is the overall layout of Daoxiang Village, a farmhouse building in Daguan Garden?
The furnishings in the yard can actually refer to a poem written by Daiyu, which reads? Lingbi Goose Water, Sang Yu Yanziliang. A bed of spring leeks is green, and ten miles of rice flowers are fragrant. ? Strangely, there are no high-walled wooden buildings here, but more mud-walled tile houses, which restore the pastoral scenery well. So Jia Zheng and these people, as long as they see the furnishings outside, will think of the life of the farmhouse.
Although the architectural design of Daoxiang Village seems simple and everything is simple, in fact, Daoxiang Village is different from the traditional countryside. After all, the forces of the Jia family are here, so more often, these nobles want to recover. In ancient times, in fact, many aristocratic bureaucrats chose to go home to farm in their later years, but these people had power status on the one hand.
On the other hand, they also have a lot of wealth. Even if you go home to farm, you won't really become an ordinary farmer. Later, a typical peasant woman like granny Liu came to Jiafu and was laughed at by the government. When she visited the Grand View Garden, she should have seen this place, but Granny Liu didn't seem to pay attention to it. In her eyes, this farmer who deliberately imitates Jia Fu may be more advanced.
Description in the book:? Jia Zheng said, and led everyone into the mourning hall, where the paper windows and wooden couches were washed away. ?
It can be seen that there is a big gap between Daoxiang Village and other courtyards, and the overall route is simple. In Jiafu, it is already a very simple layout. People like Dai Yu generally use screen windows and glass windows, and here they use more paper windows. Such a house is really inconvenient for people to live in.
It is really unacceptable that Li Wan and others are arranged here. Li Wan is not a small family, but also a woman of an official family. Her husband died young, and she was widowed for so many years. Although Li Wan is not described in detail, we don't know what her life is like in Daoxiang Village, but we can see the problem from some details. Li Wan must have a hard life here. She named herself? Daoxiang old farmer? Obviously, her life has no color, and more often, it is like a walking corpse. Although the Jia family treated their mother and son well, Li Wan's life was doomed to be very depressing. When I sent the palace flowers, I specially looked at Li Wan's yard in Jiafu, which was dull and boring, in sharp contrast with Feng's yard.
Like farm life, for these nobles, it is more a life of killing time when they are old, but for young and beautiful Li Wan, this place has become her cage. The significance of Daoxiang Village is to show the Jia family's different life. Li Wan lived a peaceful life here. Naturally, she would not be involved in the Jia family's turmoil, and she could have a better life after Jia's downfall.
People have some representative views on ancient farmhouse music, such as fences, mud-walled tile houses and paper windows, which often appear in literary works describing farmhouse music. The name Daoxiang Village has the characteristics of farm life, and its overall design also draws lessons from the descriptions of farm life in the poems of Tao Yuanming and Du Mu. It can be said that Jiafu Daoxiang Village is an ideal farm house, but the real farm house is not necessarily like this. Ancient literati retired and spent the rest of their lives in the countryside, which is also the life that many celebrities yearn for. People like Zhuge Liang don't shy away from their old farm life. Jia Fu's arrangement for Li Wan can also be seen that they intend to make Li Wan a practical widow here and raise Jia Lan.
Because we want to imitate farm life, in Daoxiang Village, besides standard items such as dirt wells and farm tools, we also raise some poultry that often appear in Tian She, which makes it full of pastoral atmosphere. However, according to textual research, Daoxiang Village should be located in the central and eastern parts, close to the Cuiqi Temple. And around Daoxiang Village, there are green hills. When I go there, my sight is occasionally blocked by the green hills. Therefore, Daoxiang Village is in a quiet and closed environment, which makes Daiyu and others have some preferences for it. Baoyu and others often take this as their priority when running poetry clubs. Many poetry clubs are held here, and Li Wan is also the head of the poetry club. She is not very good at poetry. She is a sponsor. This place, the scenery should be very good, and it is also helpful for them to write poems.
But interestingly, Daoxiang Village was set up to deliberately restore the atmosphere of farmers, but it did not reflect the due role of Daoxiang Village. There is really no description of farm life in the book. No one knows whether Li Wan and others really live like the farmers in it. But judging from her performance after coming out, she lives there, but it seems that it has nothing to do with farm life.
Like Jia Lan, besides reading, he hunts in the garden every day. Normal farm life rarely involves these aspects. Cao Xueqin returned to his old house in Beijing to make a living after his family's decline. His life here is somewhat similar to Li Wan's, but he doesn't produce himself, so it is difficult for his family to make a living. Cao Xueqin has no experience in agricultural production, so the existence of Daoxiang Village is at best his imagination of the present world, imagining that he can live an ideal retirement life like Tao Yuanming, but the reality is extremely cruel, whether it is him or Li Wan in the book.
