expanded content: why eat cake cones?
Dragon Boat Festival is the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. According to the Records of Jingchu's Years, it is recorded that it is midsummer when the sun is on the mountain in midsummer, and it is midsummer in May. Its first afternoon is the day when it is sunny to climb the mountain in the sun, so the fifth day of May is also called "Duanyang Festival". In addition, the Dragon Boat Festival is also called "Noon Festival, May Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Bathing Orchid Festival, Poet Festival" and so on.
It's the Dragon Boat Festival another year. As we all know, the Dragon Boat Festival is the day when Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet, threw himself into the river. In most parts of the country, people eat zongzi to commemorate him. However, in Taizhou, especially in Jiaojiang, Luqiao, Huangyan and Wenling in the south, eating cake cones is more to commemorate another national hero-General Qi Jiguang.
In memory of Qi Jiguang
Although Qi Jiguang was not from Zhejiang, Qi Jiguang's anti-Japanese war in Taizhou made the Japanese pirates dare not go back to the coast of Taizhou, defending their homeland for the people of Taizhou and winning the high respect of the people of Taizhou.
During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, the Japanese invaders invaded the southeast coast of China on a large scale, colluded with the pirates and plundered extensively, and the people were in dire straits. In 1559, the imperial court appointed Qi Jiguang as a general of Taiwan Jin Yan to go to Zhejiang to direct the anti-Japanese war. Qi Jiguang recruited Yiwu miners to train Qi Jiajun to adapt to the "Yuanyang Array" tactics of fighting in paddy fields in the south of the Yangtze River, and established a navy division, which dealt a heavy blow to the enemy. Qi Jiguang was in Haimen for four years, and moved to all parts of Taizhou. After Taozhu, Haimen, Xinhe, Baishuiyang and Changsha triumph, he created the enemy and won nine battles and nine victories, which is called "Taizhou triumph" in history. According to legend, after the victory, every family cooked dishes and wanted to reward the army. But how to send it to the military camp is really a difficult problem. It's too far to carry, so you can't even send a bowl, can you? So the clever fisherman's daughter made a cake crust, wrapped it in food, and put the vegetable bag in and gave it to the soldiers.
According to Taizhou people, as long as there are no bones or thorns, mung bean noodles, long cowpea, fried shredded pork, fresh pomfret, fried rice noodles, razor clams, fried shredded squid, shredded eel, shredded egg and fresh shrimp can be wrapped in a cake container. Choose your favorite and put it on the wheat cake skin. Put a little of everything on it, wrap it, roll it and eat it. It's really unexpected and delicious, mixed with the delicate flavor of seafood, eggs and vegetables.
Later, this way of eating became a custom. At that time, it was the Dragon Boat Festival. Since then, people will eat cake cones to commemorate General Qi every Dragon Boat Festival.
Of course, in Linhai, Xianju, Tiantai and other places in the north of Taizhou, the Dragon Boat Festival still follows the crowd and eats zongzi.
