What spices did the ancients have?
The ancients certainly didn't have as much seasoning as we did. We have all kinds of spices now, such as pepper, chicken essence, monosodium glutamate, soy sauce, vinegar, etc., which are really countless. Then these are all processed spices. For the ancients, there were absolutely not so many processed things. Most of their spices are natural. What I want to say here is pepper. As the saying goes, neither spicy nor fragrant. Spicy food can really arouse people's taste buds. During the Qianlong period, local people especially liked spicy food, so those people not only ate peppers raw, but also made them into bean paste or seasoned them in dishes. Of course, people used to use wine, salt and honey as seasoning, but many other words are now lost.
