Longing for Freedom-the Food of Mandela's Life is a birthday present for former South African President nelson mandela to celebrate his 90th birthday. The author of this book is an anthropologist and a gourmet. After reading Mandela's letters in prison, she came up with the idea of writing such a book.
This book is a book about food, describing Mandela's favorite foods and cooking recipes at different stages of his life. At the same time, this book is also like a biography, which records Mandela's life experience and uses food to compare the wonderful life of this great man fighting for freedom. From this book, people can know that the food Mandela ate in his hometown when he was a child was fermented yogurt, vegetables made with dried corn and beans, and porridge cooked with barley and corn. In prison, Mandela ate fruit cakes made by prison guards and so on.
