The proliferation of Danish oysters has a lot to do with their population and cooking technology. It is not difficult for our country to introduce invasive species to satisfy domestic foodies, as long as the food is delicious. Like crayfish, aren’t they doing well?
Many better things have been introduced into the country, such as corn, potatoes, and sweet potatoes in the Ming Dynasty, as well as modern crayfish, tilapia, and fruits such as mangosteen, avocado, and red grapes. These things have formed a relatively systematic planting and breeding system in China. Looking at the current Chinese menu, corn includes Jinyumantang, corn bone soup, and corn chicken soup; potatoes include hot and sour shredded potatoes, stir-fried potato shreds, potato braised chicken, fried potatoes, and potato chips; among the ingredients imported from foreign countries, only Ingredients with good taste can be developed in China, and those that cannot be developed will not taste good.
Like tilapia, it is also an invasive species. It can now be used in various recipes and is active on the Chinese dining table. Its advantage is that it has fewer spines. Although the taste is not very delicious, it is also used in fish. It is passable in this category, mainly because of its fast reproduction and rapid growth, so it developed quickly after the promotion of breeding. I remember that around 2000, tilapia was still relatively rare, but now it is basically very common.
The same goes for crayfish, which is the most famous invasive species. Being able to develop an invasive species to the point where it requires artificial breeding to survive shows that Chinese foodies are very interested in delicious food. It doesn’t matter where it comes from. As long as it’s safe, hygienic and delicious, it doesn’t matter where it comes from.
However, there are also cases where image issues go astray, resulting in an ecological disaster, such as the snapping turtle, which is often regarded as a thousand-year-old turtle. Snapping turtles were introduced to China as food. However, in recent years, due to the ignorance of the release party, it often happens that firefighters and policemen in the district work overtime to fish out the turtles when they are released here. Therefore, when introducing, science popularization is also an urgent issue.
