No, it is the central idea, the author's artistic conception.
Comment and analysis
Tang Ruxun's Interpretation of Tang Poems said, "This is also for Chu. After the exile, I was in shock, so I was even more saddened when I broke up. I didn't feel tears. I was exiled for a long time, and now I am separated from my brother. I stayed in Guiling, and I went to Dongting.
In the spring of the 11th year of Yuanhe (8 16), Liu Zongyuan's cousin Zong Yi went from Liuzhou (now Liuzhou, Guangxi) to Jiangling (now jiangling county, Hubei). Liu Zongyuan wrote this poem to bid farewell. The whole poem is full of vigor, deep feelings and strong feelings, expressing the poet's grief and indignation over political life.
The first, third and fourth parts of this poem mainly show the brotherhood between brothers. The first part begins with a topic, points out parting and describes brotherhood. "Crossing the river", that is, crossing the river, here refers to Liujiang. Two sentences mean that a person's mind has become a "scattered soul" because of the torture of long-term relegation; When this residual soul is separated, it is doubly depressed. When I sent my brother to the river, they both shed tears and were reluctant to part.
The third triplet is situational language and emotional language. It uses metaphors to render and contrast each other's situations. "Guiling" refers to the mountain near Liuzhou in the northeast of Guangxi County. "Guilin is like clouds and ink" means that the mountains in Liuzhou area are full of miasma and the sky is gloomy, symbolizing their own sinister situation. "Dongting spring water", imagine where pedestrians are going.
In the last couplet of the poem, he said that he was in a bad situation and his brother was far from home. I can only send him a lovesick dream in the future. In his dream, he often dreamed of the tobacco trees in Ying (now northwest of Jiangling, Hubei). The word "smoke" can convey the dream god. The poet said that after that, the dream of acacia, in the smoke of cherry trees, had deep friendship and blurred artistic conception. The word "smoke" can only be used as the word "edge". "Ma Su in the Qing Dynasty thought:" If you are in a cloud dream, your dream will be blurred. Why not? I am homesick. Changing the word "edge" is superficial and tasteless. " (Autumn Window Essay) The nearby Gaobu Pavilion also said: "The edge of the tree is too common, that is, it is not used by the child, but it is far less than the word' smoke'." (Notes on Poetry in Tang and Song Dynasties) The latter two remarks are reasonable.
This poem expresses not only the brotherly affection, but also the resentment and sorrow of the poet who was banished to the southern wilderness because of his participation in the "Yongzhen Innovation". The second couplet of the poem is the concentrated expression of his long-term resentment and sadness. Literally, "six thousand miles of national subjugation, twelve years of national subjugation" seems to be just his political experience. The time is indeed twelve years. In fact, the words "ten thousand dead", "barren", "six thousand miles" and "twelve years" already contain the poet's sense of depression and injustice, and his sufferings are exactly what he wants to say, leaving no trace and making people "think about it". We know that Liu Zongyuan was demoted for twelve years. It is nothing more than exaggerating one's situation, indicating that one has been exiled to such a remote "wild" place for a long time. How unfair and outrageous this is!
Yan Yu of Southern Song Dynasty said in Cang Lang Shi Hua: "The good poems in Tang Dynasty are mostly works of defense, exile, travel and parting, which can often move people's hearts and inspire them." This poem by Liu Zongyuan not only expresses the meaning of parting, but also expresses the feeling of exile. The two feelings run through each other and blend together harmoniously and naturally.
