Do you know what science is?
Some people who have just acquired some new knowledge always say that religion is superstitious and anti-scientific. But if you ask: What is religion? What is superstition? What is science? He must be tongue-tied and staring at something wrong.
Superstition is an unreasonable and unscientific belief. The real religion is the most natural, universal, reasonable and meaningful action to realize that the universe has a master and an omnipotent God through rationality. How can it be called superstition? On the other hand, if we don't look for reasons, pursue the roots of the universe and think about it, we will blindly deny the existence of God and follow suit and shout "Religion is superstition". This is really a paradox, contrary to conscience, common sense and unreasonable action. This is actually a superstition.
In fact, those who insist that religion is superstitious often have a lot of superstitious things in their minds. For example, they worship a person and think everything he says is right. Or on the other hand, they think that someone's words and deeds are wrong. They are superstitious about individuals, science and scientists, people they love, foreigners, and so on, and they fall into superstition without realizing it.
Many people who think they love science don't know what science is, and they can't tell the difference between natural science and scientific method. Religion certainly does not belong to the category of natural science, but science in a broad sense refers to logical and systematic reasoning methods. Philosophy, religion and theology are the methods used. In this sense, religious theology is also a science. The scientific method is carried out by the law of cause and effect. When scientists see a phenomenon, they infer its cause, which is the law of causality. New inventions and discoveries in science are produced by the law of causality.
There is a harmonious and wonderful order in the universe. (Think about your nervous system, digestive system and cardiovascular system ...) All these lead us to find a root, the root of the universe, the creator of everything. (Revisiting Einstein's words: "The universe can't run by accident, and the law of cause and effect must exist ... God shows himself through the orderly harmony between all things." Therefore, true religious belief is completely in line with the scientific method. On the other hand, it is unscientific and superstitious to close your eyes and not look at the facts, ask why, ask why, and deny that there is a fundamental reason for the universe.
If religion and science were incompatible, there would not be so many great scientists who believed in religion. If all religions were superstitious, Catholicism would not have developed to this day. We don't deny that some superstitious ideas still exist today, because they believe in what is basic or correct (God and soul) and attach some incorrect things (for example, they believe that the living need food, clothes and money after the death of the soul). But more importantly, various beliefs (including superstitions) prove that people need a kind of spiritual life, spiritual world and religious feelings, which can't be replaced by any feelings. It is reasonable, beneficial and indispensable in life.
In addition, it must be recognized that some people think that atheism is the result of social evolution and theism is a phenomenon of ignorance. When people's knowledge is broadened and natural phenomena can be explained, there is no need for God, and the concept of God disappears automatically. First of all, this is a hypothetical theory, which goes against objective facts. Religion did not perish because of the development of science, but prospered. As mentioned above, godless materialism did not come into being when science progressed. As early as more than 3,000 years ago, it was written in the Old Testament: Anthem: "Fools say in their hearts: there is no God." (Chant13,3). More than two thousand years ago, Yang Zhu, a materialist in China, said; "Life is virtuous, stupidity is expensive, and death stinks." 1,400 years ago, there was a Fan Zhen who wrote The Theory of Immortals. God pointed to the gods and said that the human soul is like a blade. The knife is gone, and the blade is gone. People think that he is also an atheist. Before 12000, science was underdeveloped and materialistic. Today, science has reached its peak, but there are still a large number of philosophers and scientists who are keen on honesty and worship God. Can you say that materialistic godless thought is the result of scientific progress?
Whether there is a God or not is a philosophical question. Natural science only studies and explains physical phenomena. If the ultimate reason is inferred from the phenomena and laws of things, it will be sublimated into philosophical thoughts. Natural science provides material for philosophical discussion and is the starting point and ladder for us to invest in God, the source of all things. Therefore, people who study theology should first understand natural science, which is why the church should also set up scientific research institutions. Science and theology go hand in hand and complement each other. Those who truly understand science will inevitably go further and finally find the root of everything, just as the great thinker St. Austin said, "Without God, my heart will not be at peace." (Confessions, Volume I). St. Thomas said that people are eager to know their roots from nature as their ultimate destination, but God is the root of all things, so people's ultimate destination is to know God.
