Qionghai city is located in the eastern edge of Wuzhishan Fold Belt of South China Fold System, which has experienced the formation and closure stages of Jinning and Caledonian cycles, the development stage of Hercynian cycle platform, and the continental margin activity stage of Indosinian, Yanshan and Himalayan cycles. Proterozoic and early Paleozoic geosyncline deposits and river terrace deposits in Wanquan River Basin were formed in this city. During Indosinian, Yanshanian and Himalayan periods, magmatic intrusion and eruption activities were intense, and granitoids and basalts were distributed in contiguous areas.

Qionghai city faces the sea with the back of the mountain, and the residual veins of Murui Mountain extend from west to east, which constitutes the feature that the whole terrain inclines from west to east.
