Miao customs in Nanhua Miao Village

The Miao stilted houses nestled near the mountains and rivers, the beautiful and generous Miao girls, the melodious Lusheng dance music...the original Miao culture of Nanhua Miao Village arouses the interest of tourists who come here to explore.

Three miles have different winds and ten miles have different customs. Guizhou Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture is famous for its simple, rich and colorful ethnic culture. The Miao, Dong and other ethnic minority populations here account for 81.87% of the total population, of which the Miao population accounts for about half of China's Miao population and is known as the base camp of China's Miao ethnic group. Nanhua Village, 16 kilometers away from Kaili City, the state capital, is an ancient village for tourists to visit and home to more than 180 Miao families.

As you drive to the foot of the mountain, you can see the Miao family stilt house nestled in the green trees on the mountainside from a distance. This wooden stilt house with tile roof has the architectural style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Several local Miao girls wearing exquisite embroidered clothes and silver crowns walked towards the scene, looking like characters in ancient paintings. They set up a barrage of wine at the entrance of the village. This is a welcome etiquette passed down from their ancestors. After drinking, they can enter the village.

After walking through a winding stone road, my eyes suddenly opened up. In a small square of about 200 square meters paved with cobblestones, a totem pole about 7 meters high stands in the center. This is the Lusheng field where villagers gather. Lusheng is an ancient bamboo wind instrument of the Miao people. Its dance music has a strong rhythm and is full of appeal. When the Miao girls in costumes danced around the young men playing the sheng, the soles of the tourists watching were itchy and eager to try.

The authentic local culture and pastoral scenery intoxicated a tourist from Northern Europe. She said that everything here is very interesting, and the unique architecture and the beauty of singing and dancing costumes are amazing.

When you visit the Miao Village, you can also play with the villagers. In the hot summer, the Miao people share the traditional duck-catching game with tourists in the clear Bala River at the foot of the mountain. The villagers drove the ducks into the river, and tourists also dived into the water to chase and play with the ducks. A girl from a big city said it was much better than making dumplings in the swimming pool. The cool river water, the green mountains and the joy brought by games made the tourists forget the hustle and bustle of the city and the troubles at work, and everyone smiled happily.
