Haimen is a county-level city managed by Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, located in the southeast of Jiangsu Province. It faces the Yellow Sea in the east, the Yangtze River in the south and Shanghai across the river. Haimen, known as the "gateway to rivers and seas", is located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, only 60 kilometers away from Shanghai, with a land area of 1 148.77 square kilometers. Haimen is flat with criss-crossing ditches and rivers, with an average elevation of 4.96 meters (based on the abandoned Yellow River). The terrain is slightly higher in the northwest and lower in the southeast. The highest point in the west is 5.2 meters above sea level, and the lowest point in the east is 2.5 meters above sea level. The north-south section is isolated, with low ends and high middle. Haimen District is located in the southeast of Jiangsu Province, on the north bank of the Yangtze River, bordering the Yellow Sea in the northeast, the Yangtze River in the south, Chongming District in Shanghai in the southeast, Qidong City in the east, Tongzhou District and Chongchuan District in Nantong City in the west and north, and facing Shanghai across the river.
