Whenever Hakkas do red (happy) white (funeral) good deeds, or foreign guests visit, it is inevitable to set the table (banquet). The exquisite seating arrangement of the host and guest embodies the traditional virtues of Hakka people to respect the elderly and love the guests. In the past, the banquet table was a square table, and each table (seat) was occupied by eight people. The host arranges everyone's seats according to the recognized principles, and is not allowed to overstep.

1. Please ask Uncle Zi Zong or his family members to sit in the position of (1) with their elders, and arrange them in the order of generations: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8; People with low qualifications, even if they are big officials or make a fortune outside, can't sit on the seat.

2. When entertaining relatives or foreign guests, the elders among the guests will be seated, and other guests will be seated in turn. The eighth seat is usually accompanied by the host, commonly known as the person who carries the hip flask (pours wine).

The chief seat belongs to the most respectable person, not anyone who wants to sit. Different situations have different ranking principles:

First, make a birthday party: the male birthday party, the son and uncle as the chief, the female birthday party, and the bride's family guests as the chief.

Second, the children's full moon banquet: the mother's family is the main guest. It's wrong to sit at the head with grandma's house.

Wedding guests: The bride's daughter-in-law is the chief guest.

4. Banquet for housewarming: If all relatives and uncles are sitting at the table, the elders will take the lead. If there are guests from other families, the guests from the woman's family will take the lead, and the woman's family will take the guests from the older generation. For example, if there are guests from mother's house and grandmother's house, the guests from grandmother's house should take the lead. Some are led by architects.

5. Grave-sweeping banquet: the elders of the clansmen and uncles are the chief.

Six, white (funeral) banquet: the male funeral is mainly for the uncles and grandfathers, and the female funeral is mainly for the female guests.

At the beginning of the banquet, all the people attending the banquet can raise chopsticks only after the chief opens them. At the end, the host will end the banquet, and guests in other seats are not allowed to end the banquet by themselves.

At the banquet, if the host is the eldest son of his birthday or the newly-married groom (accompanied by the bride), he must raise his glass and go to each seat in the order of seats to propose a toast to all the guests to show his enthusiasm. You can also raise a glass with all the guests.
