The city flower of China and Macau is white lotus. Because China and Macau were called "Lotus Island" in ancient times and "Lotus Land", "Lotus Dry" and "Lotus Peak" in old times, local residents especially like lotus flowers. Therefore, it is regarded as the city flower of Macao. The three flowers of the white lotus represent the close connection of Macao Peninsula, Prince Island and Coloane Island. White lotus belongs to the genus Nelumbo of Nymphaeaceae, and its roots can be divided into seed roots and adventitious roots. The main root formed by seed radicle after sowing is underdeveloped, and the adventitious root plays a functional role. The root of white lotus has obvious meristem and different tissue differentiation, and the outermost part is protected by root cap. Roots mainly absorb water and nutrients and fix plants.
